"50 caliber terror" List of 50 cal used in crime

Reading their "Proof" of the danger that .50's pose is pretty humerous. For the vast majority of them, the .50 had absolutely nothing to do with their crime. They just happened to own one.

By that logic, cell phones cause cime, because I'll bet most of those people had a cell phone also.

the only danger i saw was the idiot that started the fire. but idiots do start fires, so i don't see why we should blame the 50. *sigh*

didn't someone shoot down a plane or someting? Isn't this why they are banned?

Ok I know this did not happen, must be for the children then.

good article doubletapdrew. unfortunatly only the choir seems to be reading it. but then again, the mass populance seems spends more time researching brittney spears (or whatever pop ditz it is this week) then paying attention to the facts.

IM283

I dont know about your state, But they are not banned here!
I dont recall of a federal ban either?

If a person does somthing wrong like those listed at the website
Im shure they would confiscate firearms. doesnt mean they are Illegal unless the state has deemed them Illegal

I know of none involving the .50BMG round. I'll take bets that somebody has used the .50AE (DEagle!) to commit a murder, and I wouldn't be too surprised to hear that a .500S&W has been used either. Black powder rifles in .50cal have been used in shootings.

I like their list. It proves our point.

#1 Criminals will get items like guns, 50 BMF or otherwise, even if they are made illegal.
#2 Criminals, even murderers, continually choose to NOT use .50 BMG rifles for their crimes. They continue to choose anything but, from handguns to hunting rifles to home-made tanks.
#3 If you arbitrarially choose to demonize an item, you can puff up your stats by listing the times it was found in conjunction with a criminal, even when the item in question is unrelated to the crime. How many of those criminals arrested for unrelated charges also had computers, cellphones, even kitchen knives also in their homes. It is not relevant if the computer hacker has a gun in his home, just like it isn't relevant that the muderer had a computer in his home too.

What drives me crazy is they spout on about what the "evil gun is capable of" but not what the human behind is capable of. Most criminals probably havnt even had the slightest consideration for bullet drop, wind drift, temp etc thus preventing them for going out to that so often quoted mile long (1760 yard) shot only made by some of the best shooters in the country. My cz 550 in308 with me behind the trigger is perfectley capable of hitting a 12 inch steel plate all day long at 850yds, does that mean your average criminal could, no. They would be hard pressed to get past a 100.

I agree with Tosi. What non-gunnie actually knows about external ballistics to get their round where they want? I can't really see your garden variety criminal or even would-be terrorist putting all that training, practise and ammunition downrange. Most people's gun 'knowledge' comes from Hollyweird, computer games and the mainstream media. Heck you have an infinite point-blank range even in America's Army!

I believe there was an incident involving a nutjob in Kansas City a few years ago. Took some potshots at cop cars, ambulances and fire trucks after setting his house ablaze with himself in it. I believe there was a .50 cal bolt gun involved.

I always get a kick out of no bullet drop in America's army. It's one of the most realistic fps games out there yet they refuse to factor in bullet drop or the velocity.

That article was great. They are disputing a statement that a .50 has not been used in a crime with a bunch of crap where 50s were found when someone was being arrested for doing something else.

I especially liked the guy that shot his wife in a grocery store, but was carrying sixteen guns and one was a single shot LAR.

I always get a kick out of the "one hit with a 50 BMG will bring down an airplane." I'll bet there are a LOT of fighter pilots and bomber gunners still around who will dispute that.

haha, yes i'd never thought of that. Why did they mount SIX fully automatic .50 cals on p-51's if one single "sniper " round would down a german fighter or bomber. Some how it seem to me one .50 cal round into an airliner is some what like a mosquito bite.

British fighters were using 4x 20mm full auto cannon with explosive shells by mid WW2. German fighters had similar or more powerful armaments; the ME262 had 4x 30mm cannon. Even then, they decided to develop air-to-air missiles!

This is so blatantly disingenuous it's hysterical. Or it would be, if it didn't make me want to weep, too. Of the set, there were maybe 3 incidents where a .50 caliber weapon was actually fired.

It just proves that if I were ever arrested, no matter what I did it'd be an "assault weapon crime," because I have a WASR.
