I own a .54 Renegade and am thinking about buying a Lyman .54 pistol as a match to it. Do any of you have experience firing one of these? I was wondering about their quality and accuracy. Would I be better off in buying a finished model or a kit form? Any help with this would be much appreciated.

The Lyman guns are on par quality wise with T/C guns. Their pistols shoot great, as do their rifles. I would not hesitate to recommend one. They're great guns all around.

As for the kits, it would be a good way to get the metal and wood to better match your Renegade. If you're thinking of building it to save money though, it never seems to work out that way by the time you've invested in any tools you need, sandpaper, finishes, etc. If you've never built a gun from a kit before, there's a lot more work that goes into it than it looks like. That's part of the fun for a lot of us and why we prefer kits.

Thanks for the info Plink an O.S.O.K. Do either of you own flintlocks? I have always wanted to buy a .54 Renegade flintlock, but even the used ones are a little pricey. I am contemplating a flintlock Lyman Trade Rifle. Any comments or suggestions, good or bad, will be appreciated. Have a good evening sirs.

flinters

yes, I own a flintlock. I have found it tiresome to work with and you really need to shoot and practice a lot to learn how to ignore the flash-woosh right in front of your nose... at least that's been my experience.

It's a challenge - and if that's what your looking for then go for it! Many find them enoyable and rewarding to shoot and master.

I've got a conversion caplock on order for mine... its a Pedersoli and they can switch back and forth.
