.54 or Fight!

After some creative horsetrading I finally have my .54 cal. arsenal. I'm divested of .50. The top rifle is a Tryon, the bottom my long-sought after Kodiak .54! I liked my older Kodiak once I found a good sling for it, but .50 cal is just not cutting the mustard for Alaska. Plus I like the straight stock of this express model better than the semi pistol of the Cabela's model. Twist is RB only for the long Tryon and 1:48 for the Kodiak. It will likely take some work to see what load and projectile combination it will regulate to. In the mean time, here are me beauties. Look at the engraving on the Kodiak!

To me there is nothing like a .530 PRB going down range to make it's mark & it'll take pretty much any large game on the U.S. continent too.

Cosmoline, Speaking of slings, Cabela's sells a great sling for the Kodiak called the Safari Sling. It really helps when hunting with a heavy gun like the Kodiak.

The bore on the Tryon is incredibly tight. I actually need a wooden mallet to start the .530 ball. The Kodiak is closer to .535 but I kind of like the faster loading with the .530 and ticking. So far I've just been loading dry and pulling the bullets. It makes sense given that the Tryon is a marksman rifle and the Kodiak more of a field gun. Or field piece.

The quality of the non-Cabella's Kodiak is really excellent. There's more engraving and the wood is better looking.

I'm just posting to complain that I STILL have not been able to get to the range with these rifles! One thing after another, no free weekends. I finally took time off last week and promptly got sick as a dog. BAH! I tell you. Perfect smoke pole days flying past me.
