6.5 creedmoor for deer

Before the 6.5C caught on I bought my son, then 11 a REM M7 in .260.

I initially downloaded it with 100grn BTs at 2700 and he killed several deer with it. As he grew I "uploded" to 120BTs at 2930FPS. The little M7 has accounted for about 12 whitetails now from 80-370yds all one shot kills. I now load it with 130ABs over H4350 at 2830.

IMHO it and the 6.5C are just about the perfect whitetail cartridge out to about 350yds. I like it better than the .243 and 6mm for deer as it's a little slower with heavier bullets and more forgiving on the shoulder shots. The M7 now wears a Manners stock, and a PacNor 20" 3 Groove barrel with a 1:8 Twist, it carries very well and is handy in stands and blinds. When I want to practice prior to the season it's the rifle I grab about 80% of the time.

I wound up with a 6.5 CM not because I wanted that chambering but because I wanted a new rifle. I was shopping for a lighter weight deer rifle because I’m getting too old to lug around my heavier M 70 through the brush. I found a stainless Tikka T3x superlight at Sportsman’s that checked the enough boxes for me to grab. I got it 6.5 because of all the aforementioned reasons of component availability and support as opposed to other limited chamberings offered in that rifle model. Plus I have been influenced by the effectiveness on game of my dad’s beautiful CZ 550 chambered in 6.5 Swede. However, I don’t doubt that I’d be just as delighted if i had the same rifle in 7mm-08, 308, 30-06 that produced consistent sub MOA groups like my rifle does. I like the cartridge because I have one and it’s doing what I want it to. I probably like it more because of how well the rifle it’s chambered in shoots!

The 6.5 Creedmoor Changed the shooting landscape Forever like it or Not This is the First time an Ammo Manufacturer Said “You build the Guns to Our Specs” They made Sure the Chamber design was held to extremely tight tolerances which is why I feel “the $300 6.5 Creedmoor and the $3,000 6.5 Creedmoor both shot well……) The expensive one shot so well I tried to buy it from the guy

It is a Turnkey option You don’t have to worry about Older rifles and weaker actions so it gets watered down on the Ammo side 6.5x55 Swede

It Can Use Basically all of the Long Heavy for Caliber bullets that make a .264 Rock!
.260 Remington can’t wasn’t built for that nor was the 6.5 Grendel

It’s sold at every Walmart I’ve looked in

I’d way rather a Hunter be PinPoint Accurate with a 6.5 Creedmoor and nail the vitals vs Gutshoot a game animal with a 30-06 Newsflash deer aren’t armor plated the Number 1 Big Game Hunted in N America

Marketing Wouldn’t keep a bad Cartridge Afloat for this Long it stands on its own merit No One Has Ever Said Give up your Old tried and true Hunting Rifle for this but the Fact remains Most all Rifle tests these days are done with a 6.5 Creedmoor Why do you think that is? If it were just a fad that wouldn’t be the case would it?

It was built from the Ground Up to be Efficient and it is with the Proper Head Height for the Long VLD type bullets and very very accurate

If the 30-06 270 308 6.5 Creedmoor never existed and you asked someone to come up with a stellar target round that could also be used to deer Hunt My Money says it would look a lot like the 6.5Creedmoor

I’m pretty sure almost every style of Rifle Action has now been Chambered for the 6.5 Creedmoor bolt, semi, lever, single shot heck maybe even a pump at this point

The Fact is you can’t unopen Pandora’s box The 6.5 Creedmoor is here to stay and has Forever left it’s mark on the shooting world

Fun Fact it was almost named the 6.5 T/C

I’m just waiting for scientific evidence that shooting the 6.5CM causes a “man bun” to develop for the shooter. Then I’m all in! I can use more hair on top!

Seriously, I’m juggling around several calibers for a new bolt rifle in 2024 and I simply cannot seem to get away from the 6.5 CM. I go back and forth with a .308 but taking into account my grandkids who will start shooting in a few years and it’s a solid option, especially since I’m gonna teach them on a .223 and when they are ready, just jump up from there.

I think I’ll do as I please.

I’m fairly certain I have a good idea why & how it made, and the purpose it was meant to serve. Or at least how Hornady and their engineers and ballisticians explain in great detail.

As I keep stating and you keep missing or ignoring. I don’t hate the cartridge design. I don’t hate the purpose the cartridge was designed for. I don’t hate people who use the cartridge. I don’t hate rifles chambered in the cartridge. My Fudd comes out and I grumble that when I wander through Scheels what feels like 50% of the rifles on the rack are chambered in 6.5CM, it bores me. (Hence the admittedly irrational dislike.) I like some variety. Unless it’s 30-06, all rifles should be chambered in .30-06. (Thats a joke. I’m ribbing you Mr. CraigC.)
Sorry, I think I came off as more combative than intended. ;)

I can’t figure out is why so many people hate the caliber.
Ignoring the fact that the "6.5 Creedmoor" is a cartridge (not a "caliber"), I don't "hate" it. I just don't want one. I already have enough (read that more than enough) rifles chambered for cartridges that are as perfectly suited for the type of deer hunting I do.
For that matter, our youngest grandson, Aaron bought himself a 6.5 Creed (a Tikka I think) for deer hunting last year. And he brought it out to the house to show it off to his grandma and me. I liked it - recoil was mild, it was accurate, and it seemed like it was pretty fast and flat shooting.
On the other hand, Aaron asked me if he could borrow my old 338 Winchester if he drew an elk tag (which didn't happen). I told him, "Sure. It's going to be yours someday anyway." :)
BTW, our middle grandson, Matt got himself an AR chambered in 300 Blackout earlier this year. I don't have an AR (of any flavor) either, but I don't "hate" them. In fact, because I enjoyed shooting Matt's 300 Blackout AR so much, I'm probably going to buy one like it for myself pretty soon. And that's in spite of the fact that I haven't been able to dream up a "need" for one yet. But it's only been a few months! Give me time - unlike knowing I have enough deer rifles, I'll dream up a "need" for a 300 Blackout AR sooner or later. ;)

My experience has been something like

I don't hate any of those cartridges. I'm annoyed with that guy and so tend to make fun of him. That's pretty much the whole story.

I suppose what has not changed is that if you’re at range, every moose at 1000 yards is in serious trouble!
