Hello and good evening .

Looking for your thoughts on cleaning tools for my Bergara 6.5 Creedmoore.
I have a short Tipton carbon fiber road that I like but unsure of the length to get for the new gun .
The barrell is 24 inches with the total lenght of the gun being 44 inches .
Have a bore guide coming in any day now and was unsure if I really need the 44 innch rod like is suggested by some people .
What diameter are you using on the cleaning rod would be the best fit .
Also looking at jags the ones I am looking at are boretech and are 6mm and 6.8 , thinking 6mm is the ticket ?
As always thanks for the advice .

I use a .243dia, 40 some odd, tipton steel coated rod.
That works for 22-277 for me and a .30 works for the rest.

I had the same dilemma with my new Savage 110 Desert Tactical 6.5CM with 24" barrel. I bought a custom bore guide, but can't remember the brand but it is made for my rifle...cost me $70, but worth it. The length is about a foot so I bought a 40" Tipton coated cleaning rod. Now I clean my rifle with ease. Good equipment os well worth the time to find it and the money to buy it. I'll look around to see if I can find the brand and will send you a note if I can find it.

The best of the best cleaning rods are Ivy. They are made to order length and diameter. Always specify the largest dia that will fit your rifle's bore. And order them in pairs: one with integral jag and the other threaded for brushes.

do you ave a link to them I could check out ?
thanks

I just got an $8 birch wood Casey rod on Amazon. It works as well as my $40 Dewey.

Instead of a jag, I use a smaller brush to hold the patches. A .223 works great for 6.5 patches. I’m sure someone far more experienced will tell me this is wrong, but I think brushes hold patches better than jags, especially if you are cleaning outside in the wind.

I've had trouble finding jag/patch combos with the right fit. I've had good luck with Pro-Shot. For 6.5, the 6.5 jag and their 6-7 mm 1 3/8" patches gives me a good fit.
