I am getting a Remington 700 SPS Varmint (26" barrel) and will be using a tipton rapid deluxe bore guide for cleaning. I want to get one of the tipton 1 piece carbon fiber rods.

Does anyone know what length would be the best fit? I'm thinking either 40 or 44 inch but not sure which one.

Measure from the muzzle to the back of the receiver and then add a couple inches. That way it's long enough to go all the way through and then long enough so that your knuckles/fingers don't drag on the stock.

Don't forget to get the right diameter to fit in the barrel and be sure to get a good jag, brushes, patches...

Barring you measuring your rifle from the end of the barrel to the back of the receiver tang with a tape measure? And then adding bore guide & hand clearance to it?

I find having a too long cleaning rod is always better then having a too short cleaning rod.

Yep, but I imagine 40" will be plenty. Maybe not though. I use 36" rods, but my barrels are 20 to 24" long, not counting the carbines.

Like has been said above measure to the back of the reciever PLUS the length of the bore guide Plus a few inches. Frank

It well depend on how you clean your rifle. On my precision barrels I well always run the patch/brush from breech to muzzle only, that necessitates a longer rod.

Thanks for the feedback. The problem is I don't have the rifle in my hands yet (still in the 10 day waiting period in CA), but was hoping to get the cleaning rod before then. The bore guide I plan to use measures about 12-13", so maybe add on the 26" for the barrel and that could be just right for a 40" rod with 1-2 inches to spare? I guess the safest thing to do is to wait and measure.

My only concerns about getting the 44" is if it's too long and flexes excessively, and also I might want to transport it in the hard case I have which measures 51" long on the inside: http://www.opticsplanet.net/plano-m...her-double-scoped-rifle-case-with-wheels.html

I know the 44" is for the rod only, and I can't find out what the actual total length of the rod is including the handle.
