Ironically enough I found this while I was proving the point on another thread that there are still affordable old Winchesters out there that anybody can access.

Found on Gunsinternational.com, this uncleaned right out of the box as I received it, except for the replaced stock screw.
1894 saddle ring carbine in .32WS, made in 1919.
I'm going to take it apart to give it a good cleaning, put a ring on it, get a proper tang hole plug, and turn the front band around so its correct.

Nice catch! It looks to be in nice shape for a 100 year old rifle.
That is one funky looking front sight. I don’t think I have ever seen one like that. If it works that’s all the matters.

I’m curious. What do you mean by “tang hole plug”? It does look like someone replaced the rear screw with one that doesn’t match the original hardware.

I found some 32 Win. Spl brass online.

That is Awesome! That rifle is screaming to hit the hills for the exploring or deer hunting. Great find!

Very nice, congratulations on the gun and the deal!

@Pat Riot The upper screw in the tang is supposed to be a flush mounted plug screw when a tang sight is not installed. The one pictured is probably the screw that held the sight on.

Here's my 92's tang, with the correct plug screw.

Cool! I haven’t owned a .32 Win Spl., all my 1894’s have been .30-30’s (4 all told) and a .44 Mag. With a bit of TLC that century old levergun should clean up nicely.

Stay safe.

Good guess, when I got the gun the stock was loose and had a stock screw that was too long with an undersized head. No doubt for the tang sight that was taken off the gun before being sold.

Sweet! me personally, I wouldn't bother putting a ring on it, they serve no purpose and make noise in the field unless a leather string is on it, then that's in the way. Still a great score!

I think the front sight blade is a replacement to match the replaced Marbles rear sight.
From research it looks like standard sights were a ladder rear and flat blade front.

Hard to see clearly but the screw in the upper tang hole is dome headed, and longer than necessary, probably part of the hardware securing a tang sight.
The original filler screw would have been headless to fit flush as shown on the lovely M92 above.

I'm looking forward to scrubbing the bore, cleaning it up, and seeing what I'm working with.
Finish loss aside, with a good bore, decent wood, and working mechanics it appears to be a fully huntable rifle right out the box.
It's got a ton of that good old lever action character

Nice find. Around here, a piece in that condition will have an $1,800 price tag on it. I've seen several in the last year, and that's more than I can afford right now.
