what's every body's opinion of a ar in 4.62x39 for use in target shooting between 100 and 200 yard's ,i probably know i am farting in the wind .i know it is primarily a spray and pray round for short range,i just have a lot of new brass and man it looked a lot like 6.8 spc . other than the bullet .

I think the primary problem with a 7.72X39 AR is finding reliable magazines. That's the only thing keeping me from getting an upper. If PMag would make a magazine all would be right with the world.

I have several and they all work great. Handloads give you moa accuracy and you can always use the cheap steel ammo. Lot more energy than the 223.

There's a fellow who shoots an Olympic Arms 7.62x39 at the local range, it is amazingly accurate. He's let me shoot it once, even I drilled holes in holes with at 50 yards. It put my milled Arsenal to shame. I'm talking cheap Wolfe Russian 125 grain stuff.

I was inspired enough to consider a no name upper at an LGS but no one knew anything about it. No idea as to mags, warranty, twist, parts, nothing. I told them I would not spend $600 for something no one knows anything about, they politely showed me the door. So be it.

I also considered the ARAK, I was advised to let that one simmer for a while more, extractor issues I heard.

I came close to building one then decided to stick with a 5.56 chamber for the reason of ample parts, mags, ammo etc. and leave the AK round to AK's. Your mileage may vary.

So far my Arsenal isn't very accurate with Russian ammo ( Tula & Brown Bear ) , even at 50 yds. I have no trouble with my Circle 10 30 rd. magazines .

Before you invest in one shoot one, and see if it's for you. When I shot my friends bush master in 7.62x39 I knew I had to have one. For me it's Just something about shooting that round on an ar15 platform that appeals to me, and not so others ymmv. Just finish building my first x39 ar rifle. I was actually surprised on the accuracy...need to try 100y

rock river is building their lar47 ,not out yet but taking pre orders uses standard ak mag's ,i dont really need one ,but you never know !

I like mine, 20 shots off sandbags at 50 yards with the scope at 1X, the first 10 shots were on a different target to set zero at 4X. I changed to 1X and shot the rest to see if the zero moved with the zoom. Millet DMS scope was also new to me at the time.

As to the mags they seem to be getting better, the last four I got worked 100% out of the wrapper.

The older ones (5+ years) all needed the springs from real AK mags. Curiously the springs I removed from the AR mags all worked fine in the AK mags I got the springs from. Eventually I got Wolf AR mag springs.

Just make sure what you buy has the anti-tilt follower.

I like mine enough that I also got an 11" SBR which is my favorite rifle to shoot suppressed.

Back in the early 90's Colt came out with a 7.62x39 AR and a couple friends bought them, but all the mags were crap. AK mags cut and welded to AR mags were all that could be found, until the AWB ended and CProducts made super reliable 30 rounders. They look a little funny with their extreme curve, but work great.

I ended up buying an older Colt 7.62x39 that had been passed over at a local pawn shop for over a decade due to the AWB and not finding reliable mags, until I found CProduct mags. It shoots so well, I'll never get rid of it. (of course I bought a dozen mags for it)
