You could also try 29 grains of SP10 under a 123 grain FMJ. SP10 is another powder specially formulated for the 7.62x39. Specifically for the late Saddam Hussien..

RFWobbly?

The Yugo SKS has a adjustable port at the front of the gun that allows you to shoot RPGs. Setting that selector port will turn a Yugo SKS into a single shot.

Ummmm.... no, an RPG is a rocket propelled grenade. The Yugo has an integral grenade launcher, but it's for rifle grenades sort of like we used in WWII and Korea.... not for an RPG round.

Unless... you're doing something very new and exciting with your Yugo. :what: Post pics, if you are. :)

krochus, what's wrong with the large rifle primer for the round? I get the same results with the Remington cases I have that take small rifle primers as I do with the Winchesters that take large rifle primers, so what am I missing here?

24 grains of AA1680 under a Hornady 123gr Spirepoint works very well in my vz-58.

This is my experience as well in the Mini-30.

Krochus is the go to source on all things 7.62x39 and his info has never lead me wrong.

The problem I have is finding reloadable brass that costs less than loaded cartridges. Until I do, my 7.92X39 dies will remain unused.

Same for me... plus my AK throws brass at least 20, if not 30+ feet... I am in the market for single shot though...

What platform are you shooting and at what kind of charges

I tried Lapua LR primed brass in by bench gun and as a result my ES and SD numbers took a nosedive. But this biggest problem is loads that would go over 10 firings on small primed rp cases would wreak havoc on the Lapua brass in 1 or 2 firings

I see the base rings but man it's only at most .003". I've noticed good results with a carefully set-uo Lee FCD on the neck. Winny brass is shot (at least for groups for me) after 3X fired. I put it in the 'shoot&scoot' jug to load later. my max charge is 25grs of 680 with 123gr slugs. over that and groups open up quickly.

I have gotten at least 5-6 loads with my 24grains of AA#1680 with no undue stretching. I check with the bent wire inside every time I decap and resize, pluscheck for trim every 3 or so. Rifle is SA vz-58, but have used same loads in a Yugo SKS as well..

Would using LP primers help extend case life or even work properly for that matter?

NO! More of a chance for a slamfire, also more chance of a pierced primer, with gas blow back. Not recommended at all. Reason, primer cup material is thiner.

You've been warned!
