Ok still bumbling around about ARs and I have a question.

I am considering a M43 caliber upper and C Products magazines

I plan to drop this onto my 5.56 AR15 for Occasional Light Shooting No plans to go all gun range commando and shoot more than 100 rounds a day with the thing and likely not more than 300 a year, I just like the idea of having something that can shoot 7.62x39 from the type of rifle with the controls in the same place that I have been shooting and complaining about for over 40 years.

Do I NEED a new buffer or is it only a nice thing to have? The whole point was easy as possible conversion and honestly cheapest. If I HAVE to swap out buffers it is a little more effort and if I have to buy the darn thing it digs into money for stuff like insurance, food, and taxes and I am cheap!

So how many of you took the M43 step and did not change buffers?

What problems might I encounter by NOT buying a new buffer?

Also if I dig way back to the paper wrapped or yellow boxed Red Chinese stuff are there real issues with using the urine smelling corrosive stuff in an AR system more than just water cleaning before normal cleaning?

Please?

No need to change buffers. I switch back and forth on the same lower regularly. As long as you clean all the salts out afterward I can't think of a reason why corrosive ammo would be any worse on an AR than any other rifle.

Shooting corrosive ammo isn't something I'd personally do, but it should be fine as far as reliability goes just be very very sure you clean it well.

If shooting corrosive ammo a lot I would go with a stainless gas block and gas tube as those are harder to get clean and just pour some water through the combustion areas and call it good. I go with a heavier buffer just to aid in “dwell” time for lug life, but is not necessary (I’m just anal). I enjoy my x39 AR about the most out of mine so it got its own lower.

interesting thread on corrosive in ARs. I took a 1944 Mosin in the shower every time I shot it...and dropped it in the old iron enameled tub.
SWMBO was not happy until we redid the bathroom.

I too clened 03's and M1 s in the shower and thanks to some French made "7.5mmCarbine" ammo M1 carbines as well and a couple of mausers of course. It occurs to me that the big pipe cleaners will likely make the trip from bolt carrier key end to actual gas port in a carbine length gas system covered in hot soapy water

Indeed not using corrosive seems the best route though

AR gas tubes are stainless steel so I would be more concerned about the barrel, gas block, and BCG than the $10 tube

I run a heavier buffer but it runs just fine with standard weights.
I haven't had any problems with corrosion but I clean it asap if I shoot Russian surplus.

I have had a windham weaponry for a while. I have used the cheapest ammo i can find. And go way too long between cleanings. Never had an issue. As far as buffer goes. I was told that any used for 5.56 will work with the 762x39. I noticed my windham came wit ha H2 buffer.
