Greetings,

Anyone reloading for the 7.62x54R for a PLS/ROMAK-3?

What bullet/powder/primer does the best job for you?

Thank you

I had considered reloading this cartridge, however there is still plenty of relatively cheap surplus ammo available that is just is not cost effective to reload.

Greetings,

Cheap surplus does not deliver the accuracy I want...

Thank you

I load x54r, but not for any semi-auto.

I will suggest one that I got from a fellow member here (PTK) that may possibly do well in your PSL.

150gr Sierra SP, 46gr H4895, PRVI brass, can't remember the OAL right now... 2.8 something. Anyway, a 150 slug and some H4895 may be a good place for you to start.

Has worked well in my bolts, and I've heard your supposed to stay away from heavy slugs in the PSL type rifles.

Best bet, get a loading manual and check out the 150 loads and below.

It's not cost effective to load jacketed rounds, no (unless you are loading soft-point bullets, in which case there is a modest savings over brass cased ammo, but break even against steel cased).

If you cast your own bullets, however, it's a whole other ballpark. Having said that, you probably aren't interested in shooting cast lead subsonic gallery loads or even mid-range gas-checked target loads in that semi-auto. For the mosins, however, loading your own is the only way to go for the truly CHEAP (like me).

I bought the dies but am still using all the cheap surplus I bought. But I will be looking for load data in the near future also.....

PSLs are like Garands, you need to keep the bullet weight down to keep from battering the mechanism.

The PSL is setup around approximately 150 grain projectiles. Start there, and find a nice mid-range load that gives you good accuracy.

In my Mosin the best accuracy comes from Hornady 150 grain spire points in PRVI brass over a moderate charge of BLC2, loaded to length to match MY rifle- it likes the bullet juuuust touching the rifling. YMMV.
