7.7 Japanese

Ah, ok. Haven't worked with standard deviations in 30 years, ugh. What kind of groups were you getting?
Nothing to speak of 4" or so. Zero load development done and it's iron sights so it's not something I'm really chasing on this one... finding a good burning load to keep down fouling, and paper plate at 100 is fine for me. The groups were 3" left so I'm going to look at drifting sights.... I will try another powder first to see if that's consistent

What bullet were you using? My rifle does ok with 150 and 174g but it does NOT like boat-tail bullets.

what happened?

I’m going with a super light under 2,000 load
Just dealing with what is effectively range brass. The base is being tortured from excessive head space and a military large chamber.... part of why I was trying to come to a consensus on a datum so I could save others this heartache.... if this trend continues I will form my own brass out of 30-06 and make it tight headspace from the start. Asking old brass to grow .030 is kinda a lot for any real lifetime.... I've seen at least 3 more pieces that I hope survive.....

I know I’m still relatively new and naive at this hobby, but can’t you take 1 of the cases you just recently fired from your gun, pick one of these :

…..and set your sizer to set it back .002” or whatever, and call it good…?

Again, I don’t know **** about ****, but that’s what worked for me….

lube well and the excess brass will be at the neck. Trim to SAMMI length if you plan to chamber your rounds in your magazine. Do you or anyone have LC brass from the same lot? I might consider trading for resized LC brass.
I do not, and have not fire-formed any case.
I fortunately have my life’s share of new and once fired PPU brass.
It just seems to me that is a lot of brass to move to make the -06 case work.

Appears you have the monopod, missing the bolt dust cover, and I can't tell if you have the airplane sights or not.... do you have the bayonet?
I have a non-matching dust cover but don't keep it on the rifle, it is a PITA. Everything else is matching and original. I do have the A/A sights but no bayonet. The sling is rubberized canvas and is the reason I don't shoot the rifle much; it is brittle and fragile and I can't unbuckle it, I can only unfasten the rear hook.

I don't even have a dust cover, my grandfather had the original bayonet but I have a diffrent one, no sling at all here.... mine hasn't been shot very much over the years, but I wanted to put a few hundred rounds through it with my son before it goes to the back of the safe.

Mine is as bare as you can get…..
Bought it for $100….
No dust cover, don’t have the wings for the AC site, no cleaning rod or bayonet, no monopod or sling and the mum is scraped off…..stock and forend is scratched up..
Best I came up with from the interwebs was manufactured in ‘39….??
Matching #’s tho and the barrel is clean.
It prolly would shoot better with a different trigger presser, but I have fun with it….

I never seem to get a good deal on a gun but I did with this one; paid $150 for it back in 2015.
