7.7 Japanese

Round two of loading. I had a partial box of the Sierra. 311 150s part number 2300 and I loaded a ladder between 44.5 and 46.5. According to load data max was 46.8 but I'll leave those tenths on the table for someone else. I found out I was done, when I ran out of bullets and had 11 cases remaining. I had 3 Hornaday. 312s 150s so I loaded those up at 45.5 because otherwise they would just be laying around.... imr 4064 was the flavor of the day at 3.050. Let's see how these new cases do. Hopefully the hammered flat primers are no longer a thing.... 20240305_113135.jpg 20240305_122418.jpg 20240305_124142.jpg

that’s a big mug of coffee, probably need it for all this thinking your doing

I use the Sinclair Chamber length gauge to determine my maximum case length: https://www.bing.com/videos/rivervi...3030760201B2689B72EB3030760201B2689&FORM=VIRE. Then I use the Forster case trimmer with my mini-drill press: https://www.forsterproducts.com/product/power-case-trimmer. I lower the cutter onto the case to center the case so it cinges down straight with the collet. At present, my maximum case length is 2.320" and a Hornady 7.7-150 ogive can touch the rifling. The case OAL is longer than SAMMI specs and I will use these for my long range loads. Shorter cases will be assembled for loads that are an OAL = magazine internal length

We talking 'bout the same round....?
Yes because that is my actual chamber length measured by my Sinclair gauge. My maximum cast length in fact will be 2.318". Most of my resized/fireformed brass cases are 2.270" and the bullets are seated so the OAL is 3.100 and in the magazine. The 2.270" cases cannot hold a bullet far enough so it touches the rifling. The 2.318" can so I use this to find an accurate load for long-range use.

I thought my chamber was long at 1.936, that case length I would need a picture to see where that brass is... although I think yours is measuring a bigger case than mine. I still don't see how case head seperations aren't rampant...
He stated he wanted to get a 150 to touch the lands…..
At that length, prolly just jam a 30-06 in there and let it fireform itself….!!!!….

Inital range report: all the work I put into forming the long cases out of 30-06 was a huge success. Zero chambering issues, zero case head seperation issues, and primers that look like the should instead of flat like smashed like a pancake. The chronograph numbers sucked, but I watched a totally strange poi shift at the start to right on target at my top load of 46.5 grains of imr-4064. I'm now curious about that .3 left on the table from the load book max as this powder always seems to work best at pressure with a full case. The top charge was well within the accuracy of a pie plate. Junior called a pulled shot and that was out of the group... still good enough to load a box to put back.... these were shot with .311 Sierra 150s and the Speers I have, match the weight and size, so I'll load those up the same. Zero signs of pressure, all day but it was a cool 70 not the 105 of the peak of summer... not going to take out the old relics in the heat and humid southern summer....

Do you plan to go max...?
I'd be curious, as you prolly are also, to see those results....
Do you plan on testing the 174gr at some point...?
The only reason I planned on going max was the character of the powder.... I don't need any more, but optimal burn is intriguing. I have a single box of Sierras in the 174 matchking. Im not pushing to test it because their not available....

I was thinking more of the Hornady 174 Interlocks...................they are readily available...

I have started my testing with them.......................................just asking you....................
I shot 3 150 interlocks today, not bad... I test and shoot what I get in barter. Well junior shoots what I get... I'm fully absorbed in the loading. I have a hired trigger jerk 🤣

Wellllllllll..........................................................................................................maybe HE hired a loader.......................... 😎

Old target but better prints to come. 100yd and 200 yd prints.
Are you observing any left or right groupings? I noticed my loads walk right as I went up in power... more spin drift????? It appears your shooting noe cast... pictures of your bullets and load data requested... I figure I would get normal loads sorted before I go cast... and I will!!!!

Yes. Here are two ladder tests I printed: Hornady 7.7-150SP and 7.7-150ttsx. The POI climbed and converged to the right as the powder charge increased 0.2gr at a time.

Sized and loaded my made federal cases. The base bulges a little, and they sized a little tough to push that back in place... ran out of the Sierra .311 150, so moved onto the Speer hot core .311 150. Based on the great results with 46.5 grains of imr-4064 I just loaded up the batch. I have 50 left and that will be the end of the 150s.
