Hi Guys
I am thinking about loading sierra 85 gr prohunters in my .243 win using h4350. I will be using it for small deer, roe and muntjac. (muntjac are about as big as a spaniel)

Has anyone used this load? any observations? any data?

thanks guys

steve

i really like sierra pro-hunters and gamekings at 3100 and 3000 f/s respectively. very accurate, very lethal.

i eventually settled on 100 grain bullets and higher for the 243 - but the deer i chase are usually closing on 200 pounds, and a few have gone in excess of 250. i went to the heavier bullet to gain penetration and guarantee exits, and to get the bullet to open up a little slower.

i'm sure your 85 grain selection won't disappoint, accuracy-wise, but performance-wise i like a little heavier bullet for deer.

i use 130 grain 7mm from my 7mm08 for most of my deer shooting and 150 gr from .30-06 for big deer and pigs. so i am coming down from 100 grains for tthe 243.

I've used IMR 4350 and the 85g SGK with good success. My rifle likes IMR 4064 better, though. I've shot a few whitetails with this bullet and have been quite impressed.

The 85g SGK is a VERY accurate bullet, IMO. It is certainly not a bonded bullet, and all due diligence should be made when choosing shots.
