870 express extractor plunger

If the plunger came out, what about the extractor and spring? They usually depart together.

Thanks for the follow up Jim, but both the spring and extractor were both still in place. The plunger appeared to have just pinged out.

No idea how it happened. My friend was visiting from England, so naturally I took him shooting, as we don't get to do that back home! He was shooting clays when he said it just stopped working. I've no reason to think he did anything odd either. Just one of those things, I hope.
 
If you are going to order 1 plunger, you might better order two, with the cost of shipping, because you never know.
If they have a spring available, get that for the same reason.
If you get part way through the repair and parts ping on you, you'll be glad that you had a spare.
As Jim Keenan noted, it's strange that you lost the plunger and not the spring.
