I think you have the wrong extrator FYI the part you need is Remington part #99046. I think you got the extactor for the 1100 and its a little thicker in design.

Its out of stock but here you go:

Also get this:

Remington Extractor Plunger --Remington #: F17432
Remington part #17433 –– 870 EXTRACTOR SPRING
Nope, it's the right part, the steel non-MIM extractor. The one you linked is the MIM part which I am trying to replace. I just need to figure out how to install it into the spring they sent me......

Did you receive a bolt in addition to the spring or just the spring?

Wow, apparently 'Gloria' really dropped the ball on that one! I know it's from Remington but I'm just curious as to which place it shipped from?
Shipped from Ilion, NY, the same place the extractor I tried to install was shipped from and took over 2 weeks to arrive. I'm keeping my patients but it's becoming quite a challenge. All I wanted to do was replace the factory MIM part with a stronger steel part, I had no idea it would turn out to be so much trouble.

Remington agreed to replace the bolt, at first they wanted me I ship the entire shotgun to them but they finally came to their senses.

Would the replacement bolt need to be checked for headspacing once in your 870, or would Remington find a bolt that was a "match" to your original bolt? Basically, I'm wondering if 870 bolts are plug and play, and if not, why Remington would agree to send you a new bolt given the litigious world we live in.

My first thought is that it wouldn't be an issue or else you would not be able to swap an 870 barrel without it being 'fitted' to the gun. You can buy a barrel that fits and shoot it no problem...

I don't think headspacing is as important with shotguns as it is with rifles, probably partially due to the much lower pressures involved.

I would call Remington and play dumb, saying you installed the "new bolt" and cant get your gun to do anything.

Make them sweat it, and then tell them the facts.

Wow, Big Green is really slacking here. I hope the get you taken care of. I had some issues with my 870 express that were eventually resolved...

You might email them a link to this thread. Seems you have been polite, but it will let them know others are watching. And many of us buy guns.

Received the new bolt yesterday, this time the package actually contained a bolt, thanks Gloria:). The extractor cut-out is much cleaner on this one. I was able to get the steel extractor to fit, however it was very tight at first and slightly binding, but after working it about 30 or 40 times it moves freely under spring tension. I also rounded the upper outside edge to avoid scoring the inside of the receiver.
