I have a Remington 870, got the urge to try out a red dot on it. I have an older NCStar red dot laying around, (used it on an AR for a while, switched to a circle dot), trying to mount it on the gun. Possible problem, I have a Scattergun Technologies ghost ring rear sight that might get in the way of mounts that attach by means of the trigger group mount pins. A couple of these might work, Mesa has a nice one with the shell holder but right now I have velcro and I attach elastic shell holders, (which I've used for a while, taken two classes with this set up), I guess removing the velcro would be necessary. My thought would be to mount a small picatinny rail, the NCStar has a lever quick mount, (if I don't like it or it dies, it comes off quick). I saw a couple that are designed to mount on the gun using Remington's 4 holes, mine isn't drilled and tapped so I would have to do that. The rail I've seen is much longer than I need although if I cut it in half, I hope two screws are enough, (the NCStar dot isn't real small), I guess a blob of epoxy underneath along with the screws would be enough, IDK. Open to ideas.
