No questions, just sharing. In early April I shopped the Tulsa Gun Show for a turkey gun. Found a nearly new 870 Wingmaster for a great price and was rewarded last week with my first turkey double ever. I know guys who insist on 3" mag super turkey loads. But, that 870 with 30" full choke and #5 magnums was ample. An added bonus is the fact that I grew up shooting my dad's 870 and the nostalgia was great.

I've been shooting big tom turkeys for over 50 years with an 870 Wingmaster 2 3/4 inch chamber and I have never found it lacking in killing power. I regularly take turkeys at 50 yards and I am confident with shooting at 50 yards. My favorite load and the only load I use for turkey hunting is the Winchester XX magnum #4 copper plated shot. I always look at gun shows and antique stores for those loads with the smooth plastic hulls because they are the best. The new rounds with ridges on the hulls don't seem to be as good but I wouldn't hesitate to use them when I run out of the others. I called up a big Rio Grand tom the first weekend of the Oklahoma season and it was a really fun hunt. The Tulsa Gun Show is great and I hope you really enjoy that Wingmaster! I only live 25 miles from the building and we may have bumped into each other.
