I have wanted one of these for a long time. Got to looking around on Ebay. I know, they are evil, no living human bean should ever even think about them much less use their services, yada, yada, yada. But I found an old 3 piece wood shotgun cleaning rod that only had about 8 minutes left on the auction, no minimum and no reserve. I bid $.99, and got it. Of course shipping cost me $6.00, but even at 7 bucks it is still a prize. On the other hand you can always buy one of the new ones from Kleen Bore for $41.00.
If you can make yourself take a look on Ebay, there are lots of them listed with prices all over the place. If you look around, you should be able to find one for a few bucks.
It looked like the end was crushed.
Turned out to be the remnants of an old attachment. The end is fine.
