9mm Carbine...

I guess it all depends on how much the folding feature of the Kel-Tec is worth to you. Living in a suburban environment, the fact that it can fit in a shoulder carry laptop bag is worth a bunch to me.

Right now there's kind of a mini renaissance in 9mm Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCCs.)

On the high end, you've got ones like the KRISS Vector, MP5 clones and the Wilson Combat AR9. ($1500-$2000)

A step below that, and you've got the Beretta Storm, SIG MPX and CZ Scorpion in about the $800 range.

Just under that, ($600-$700) and you can pick up a PSA AR-9 that takes either Glock or Colt magazines.

And then there's the bargain-priced stuff like the Kel-Tec and HiPoint.

Taurus has one out too, don't know anything about it, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I ended up making this thing (the handguards are matched now.) JustRight Carbine in .45 ACP. Uses Glock mags and works fine, though I need to test my extended mags because some just don't work.

I forget which AR trigger is in it - with the suppressor the first couple of "good" triggers I tried didn't function reliably.

Since I put this together I think 3 others in town have built something similar. Should work fine in 9mm if that's your preference, but I thought a subsonic round made more sense, and all but one of my 1911s are in .45 ACP anyway. Ammo commonality is a good thing.

OP, the question is fine.. Ask away. There are many answers and many choices. As I posted above, the newer AR 9MM carbines are quite popular now. Particularly the ones that take Glock mags.
You asked about one that would be "better" than your KelTec.
It's a starting point in providing some choices.
Beretta CX4
CZ Scorpion
Sig MPX
Various makers of AR platforms in 9MM (some take Glock Mags, some take Colt pattern)
Some are true to AR platform, some less so
Uzi
MP5/HK94 or clones
Ruger PC9 (out of production)
Marlin Camp Carbine (out of production)
Tavor in 9MM
Steyr AUG in 9MM
HiPoint
And many others that I can't remember at this time.

I'll add in a point of view -- I own the following 9MM carbines: CX4, Just Right carbine, Bushmaster Carbon 15, Uzi clone, HK94 clone, Ruger PC9 (x2), and a Mech Tech conversion kit for Glock. Of all of these, the ones that make it to the range more often are the CX4 and the Bushmaster.

I will probably build up a new AR platform that takes Glock mags and replace the Bushmaster at some time. I need to try out the CZ and Sig some time and see how I like them.

To the OP, what generation Sub2000? I had the older model years ago and didn't care for it. Then I discovered the Gen 2 Glock mag version. Much better usefulness with the upper and lower rails. Took off the front and rear sights, added a vertical front grip, tactical light, and TRS25 red dot. I like it, wife loves it, and we especially appreciate that it takes 33 rd mags.

I owned the Ruger and was kinda sorry I sold it. Accurate, but it was heavy and not sure if Ruger still supports it. I do prefer the lighter weight and ergos of the Keltec.

I have a Taurus CT9 that has been a terrific accurate little carbine with a decent trigger for a great price. It only takes 10 round mags though. I also have a PSA 9mm with the mag insert to take colt magazines. I have a Geiselle trigger on that little pea shooter, and it's awesome. Bump firing mag dumps are almost too easy with that trigger, and tons of inexpensive shooting fun. If I could do it all over again I would get the one that takes Glock mags instead though, and I may yet. I don't own a glock but almost everyone else seems to, so mags are plentiful. A Barretta 92 mag taking carbine would not be a bad idea either.

Anyone who seeks a 9mm carbine should first put several cases of ammo on the shelf, and do it while prices are down and " The wicked Witch of the North" is not yet on her broom stick creating havoc. If you then decide against an ammo gobbling carbine you still have all that lovely stash for your pistols.

I'm tickled by my Sub2000 (glock magazines), but have long looked into the Storm.

I believe the 9mm Colt is now sold as a 6951. Pretty sure that's what mine is. I love it. It's a flat-top configuration so you can do whatever you want with it in terms of mounting sights or optics. I also have a brass catcher I can mount on the rail which is very convenient for reloading. I keep it setup the same as my Colt 5.56 gun so it is a great training tool. I can use it at my nearby indoor range where 5.56 is not allowed except on the dedicated rifle sit-down/slow fire section.

Yup, AR6951.

I love mine, use it as a trainer as it doesn't screw up my AR500 targets when doing drills. I set it up like my LE6920. Also cranking out 9mm on the Dillon is a lot faster/simpler and cheaper than .223. Probably shoot this little carbine more than any other rifle I own.

The KELTEC is light weight but the front sight design is too high and very snagable. The CX4 is a beautiful gun, but it's just too darn heavy being a open bolt design. My thoughts are to build an AR in 9mm, maybe even 10mm. Had both. Now keep a Rem 870 20ga youth model in the closet for a home defense long gun.

I need one of those barricade setups - does anyone make an easily transportable version?

I built two of them (1 sheet plywood) and the leg sections detach quickly with wing nuts, but since it's my range easily transportable wasn't a concern. The basic design is a VTAC Barricade and a gentleman made a more easily transportable version here:

MGM Targets does make a set of barricade legs:

That you could also use to save weight.

I have owned a 9mm Keltec 2000.....whats out there that is better?
in my opinion, about 75% of all other 9mm carbines. I have personal experience with the hipoints, AR15s, HKs, and Berettas. in my opinion the beretta is the best bang for the buck, the AR15 is the best overall but is also one of the more expensive ones.

I have been toying with the idea of the just right carbine. it's essentially a fully ambidextrous combination of AR15 ergonomics and modularity, with an SKS-ish set of internals, all in a PCC setup. I almost bought one in 45ACP until I realized the shop selling it wanted MSRP for a used rifle. they take glock mags so magazines are cheap and plentiful in everything from 10 shot shorties to 50 shot drums.

"Taurus has one out too, don't know anything about it, but I thought I'd throw it out there."

They had one, they no longer make the CT9. I wanted to like it, but it was very muzzle-heavy, and heavy for a carbine in general. They list it as 6.6 lbs but it felt heavier than that just holding it. I think the big problem with the CT9 was the lack of hi-cap mags and aftermarket support for their mags in general. You basically had a 10 round magazine from Taurus and that was it.

I noticed that the IWI x95 carbines are available now in 9mm, and the 9mm conversion kits are available too.

I never liked the AR, and I think I'll get the x95 in 5.56 and 9mm.

yeah 922R killed the taurus ct before it even began. because swapping mags out with anything other than nation of origin constitutes "assembling from parts" all parts had to be made in brazil along with the carbines and since it is illegal to import a semi auto rifle with greater than 10 round capacity unless it's considered a C&R, the taurus was locked at 10 rounds. made me sad, I really liked that one... aside from the aforementioned weight.

I have the CX4 Storm, Aero Survival Rifle and an old Feather AT9 carbine.

They are all fun to shoot and I'm glad I have all of them, they are so different.

I have one of the PSA ARs that takes Glock mags. I don't love it. I had to install a super heavy buffer to keep it from swelling cases. So now I have a 9mm that's heavier than a 223...which largely negates the reason for a PCC in the first place. It is fun to shoot, just not terribly practical.

I like my Marlin Camp Carbine. It feels more like an actual carbine. And believe it or not I liked the Hi Point I traded to get the Marlin.

The AR was 2X the cost of a Hi Point but I'm not sure it's 2X the gun. But the 10 round mags are a real killjoy.
