Just be advised that picture has straight lines. Rarely does nature work that way. My point was there’s usually an approximate linear relationship for well behaved powders in a certain range, but the non-linear portion can get dangerous very quickly. Also, the chart was for Zip only. It’s good data to have, but not applicable to other powders.

And different powders react differently as well.

Hornady gives charge weights but drastically different COAL for a FMJ (1.169”) and JHP (1.10”).

Because the bullet shape is drastically different.

As an example I will give you these two different shaped 230gn round nose bullets, one has a flat spot on the nose and is notorious to be a problem for people that load it to normal OAL for a RN bullet.

If you want them to run right they have to be seated .030” deeper.

Now If you add something that will allow you to compare them from the ogive vs the tip, they are the same.

I'm sorry to step a little out of line here, I have been loading 9mm for about 5 years now and have been using Lee 358-105-SWC, and Lee TL 356-124-2R and I really like the results I get with both. My question is this: I use range pickup cases, and up till now have ben totally happy with them. Today a question popped up in my mind.....Are the cases that I am using meeting SAMMI specks? So out come the calipers and looking at the SAMMI spec sheet I am in shock. The spec reads .754-.010. all of the cases I am reloading measure between .738 and .746. None of them are .754. So just for yucks and grins I thought what will happen if I run some thru the sizing die? As you know, 'voila' they stretch out to acceptable lengths ( within SAAMI specs). Whew; crisis averted! Old dogs really can new tricks, I am Proof.
Thanks for letting me bend your ears.

When I check cases for 9mm I set my calipers at 0.754” and see if they pass through after sizing. I did 105 yesterday, all range pick up or my own previously used brass and all made it though a couple were tight. Every once in a while I run into a long one and just save it. Eventually I’ll get enough to make trimming worth it. Right now I have 6.

A canik is one of those guns where they decided to skip the throat cutter. This means you will have to seat pretty dang deep. Some brands of cases will not work. CBC, Aguila, and a few others are too thick too high to work with our 147. That said, I have loaded and shot thousands of the 147s in competition and I love them. I highly recommend having the throat reamed though. It makes being a reloader a ton more fun.

Good information straight from the spring there. I didn’t get to mess with them yet. I was sizing and priming cases. I’ll try tomorrow or Thursday. I plan to use the data for Hornady 147 grain XTPs with a COAL of 1.10”. The RMRs are a tad shorter so case volume isn’t reduced. I know the XTPs will shoot in the Canik at that length.

Is this problem common in other calibers like 40, 10mm, 45 ACP?

1.10 COAL chambered fine in the Canik. When I load Silhouette powder tomorrow or Friday I’ll check 1.13”.

So 1.1” COAL and a mid-level charge of HS-6 seems to be the way to go for the Canik at least. I’m honestly kinda flabbergasted. This is comparable to my Blackhawk in 357 Magnum and S&W Victory in 22. 274781BC-7F7E-486D-8A65-35C4BBF0C7CD.jpeg

RMR in-house jacketed bullets are used by ELEY for their centerfire match ammunition so we are using "ELEY match grade" bullets for our reloads.

Thanks for the update and range report.

And we can add Canik Mete SFX/RMR 147 gr FP MW 1.100" to the reference max/working OAL thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...col-for-reference.848462/page-2#post-12423917

I was a little concerned when I test fitted them then I remembered I hadn’t crimped them yet. They fit even with the flair not removed. I bell 9mm cases after shaving some jackets on the XTP load.

Again, thanks to LiveLife and all who contribute hear. It's appreciated!!! God Bless!!!

I loaded a batch of RMR HMW with Silhouette powder and 1.13 COAL. The se would still chamber and eject when run through the action. If they shoot as well as the HS-6 load then I have some options when searching for powders.
