9mm for carry/training/competition

Try the SIG P239 in 9mm. If you liked your SIG P228, you'll probably like this too. BTW, it's smaller and more concealable.

I went to a few gun shops today and checked out pricing... the Kahr T9-N is going for 699-720 and the CZ75 Compact is 520-540. The bummer is that neither of the two stores I went to had either one in stock. The 2nd store had a CZ 97 (a full size in.45ACP) and I really liked the controls and the way it feels in my mitt.

I have decided to get a CZ 75 Compact... now I just need to find the right price.

Walt,

What is a fair price? I had the plastic out and was just about ready to buy it but then I felt like the price was a tad high. I did a search on a few of the auction sites and saw the average price was around $100 less.

If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse near you (one is opening somewhere in the southeast) you can get the best price on the Kahr. SW doesn't carry CZ. If you have a Gander Mountain nearby, they tend to have the best prices on CZ of any major chain sporting goods store, but your best bet is some sort of a discount place.

If that doesn't work, look into buying online. You should be able to get either gun for well over $100 less than those prices, which is more than enough to pay shipping and FFL fees.

But look around first. I've seen decent prices in FL gunshops. See what chain sporting goods stores in your area carry handguns--they won't have the absolute rock-bottom prices, but they should have fair prices.

What LOBOTOMY BOY said. (And your experience, finding the guns about $100+, may be understating the amount of overpricing.)

Pick up a new copy of GUN LIST or SHOTGUN NEWS and look through them.

If you've interested in the CZ line, check the CZ Forum's CLASSIFIED area, as you'll often find excellent deals there from that forum's members. (WWW.CZFORUM.COM)

CDNN INVESTMENTS frequently has good deals on other major brands (with some outstanding offers on FN High Powers, SIGS, and GLOCKs, right now).

And the CLASSIFIED AREA here on The High Road is a great place to get good guns from honest sellers. (Some of my best buys have come from THR members!)

Ok, I've got medium to small hands and I can't help but wonder how the rest of you are built, but even in my hands the Smith and Wesson SIGMA series is exceptional. Especially if you consider the 16 rounds in the double-stack. And did I mention how insanely cheap they are? I think this fine gun deserves a close, hard look from anyone serious about 9mm carry.

The FN or Browning HP's are much better for carry than you think, even being a double stack. The frame of the gun is thinner than you would expect which makes it fit perfectly tucked inside your waistband. I carry mine all over the place and half the time don't notice it on. Exceptional gun for in and around $450.00 (FN) and I would think one of the best choices available for what you described. Plus, you can load it up with 9mm ammo 13,15, 17 and even 20 rd mags are available if you wish.

The CZ P-O1 is fatter in the slide making it not as nice for IWB carry. The CZ-Compact is a good choice too, just not full size, which I would much rather have for target/competition shooting.

Hope you enjoy whatever you get. :)

What is the problem with the Smith Sigma series? I've never read much about it, beyond a comment tossed out in a magazine test of the 99 series: "That dog don't hunt." I took that to mean that the gun was undesirable, and that everyone pretty much understood as much.

But why is this the case? What is the problem with the Sigma? I recently read a short piece on a new Sigma that said the original problems had been solved, but it didn't say what those problems were. Are the current guns better than the originals?

I've fired both a SIGMA(now the SW9VE or SW9GVE) in both 9mm and .40 and I have to say it treats me better than any Glock. My primary point about this gun is its cost...as $379 MSRP! Come on! You can't beat that with a sharp stick!

As to the problems the SIGMA used to have, Glock sued Smith over the design and won so Smith had to change a few things. It took a few years for them to iron the problems out and now(for the last 3 or 4 years) the gun has had no more or less problems than any other 'expensive' gun.

I will point out that a mold for a polymer frame takes a long time to wear out...this brings down the production cost of later pistols as the molds have already paid for themselves. Makes you wonder why other poly-frame manufacturers (other than Kel-Tec) don't lower their prices?

Cz 75 BD NIB $339.
85 combat NIB $450.
75 compact used with 3 CZ high caps $350.
Put a little more time in and you may be able to find a better price. All of these were purchased within the last two years, the compact was the most recent. These were all found in a couple smaller local shops. Gander mtn. was $50 to a $100 higher with their CZ models. good luck.

Here's One!!

NewGuy,
I found this one over on GT. It's mighty clean and a solid price at $450.
ANIB KAHR T9
Hope this helps you on your way. I'm going back to a regular P9 for a carry piece.
