9mm NATO ammo made in Germany, ballistics?

They did that with more than just .45 ammo, but now they appear to have stopped it altogether. Everything from S&B I've seen made in the last few years doesn't have the sealant anymore.

Well, that shows you just ho much I have been in shooting in the last few years. Still working on some of the 'old stock' left over from the last purchase of a couple thousand round so the elimination of the sealant has not made it to me yet. :D

The Winchester 124gr Nato in the white box is most definitely crimped. And it has the cross. I shot a lot of it last year at my gun clubs competition matches. My Steyr loves it.

Found it first at Wally World but have not seen it there for a year. I see it now and then at Cabela's and have seen it at Sportsmans Guide.

It is no more a problem to reload than any crimped ammo you would use in an AR. Swage it once and you are done.

I shot some of this ammo a while back and it didn't seem to be any stronger than the other 124gr stuff I shot along with it. I don't recall if the primers were crimped, but they had red sealant on them. I just got some more Perfecta from a friend who got a bunch of it at a gun show a couple of weeks ago. $10.00 a box isn't too bad, and I didn't have to even leave the house to get it.

In the early 1980's German Geco ammo was deffinately hotter than US commercial ball. There fore I carried that for hardball in my P1, P7, and CZ-75 when I carried those rather than a .45. Oddly enough it being "peace time" I carried Speer 200 grain "Flying Ashtray" HPs in the .45 most of the time though sometimes the Hornady TC FMJ handloads or GI Ball.

I know it shocks some of you that -kBob ever carried a 9 sillymeter, but there it is.

Well, if you order from SGAmmo you don't have to leave the house either lol

I haven't used any of the MEN yet, but FWIW have used thousands of rounds of Winchester Q4318 NATO in the white boxes and a lesser amount of the Winchester Ranger tan box NATO and IMI NATO. I've chronographed all three versions in a variety of pistols and revolvers and in the Marlin carbine. I called a Winchester LE rep. and inquired about the Winchester NATO in the White and Tan boxes. He confirmed it is the same ammo meant for different markets. I found no difference in the chronographed velocities of these two. I also chronographed some of the newer Winchester Q4318Y NATO ball and found it no different than previous Winchester NATO versions. The Winchester 9MM NATO averages ~1230 FPS in a 5" barrel, ~1300 FPS in the 16" barrel. The IMI 9MM NATO runs ~1270 FPS in the 5" and ~1350 FPS in the 16" barrel. Velocities in different guns, even with the same barrel length, will vary. Extreme spreads and standard deviations indicate quality ammo. The Winchester NATO requires the primer crimp be removed when reloading these cases. The IMI is also crimped, but much more lightly, and did not require crimp removal when reloading those cases using my Dillon 550 press. There were no issues in using the NATO 9MM in my guns.....ymmv
