We all know ammo is in short supply, and we don't need another thread to discuss that. I just have one question. What's your pain point for buying 9mm ammo? I've never been tempted to reload 9mm before, but after spending $20 for a box of 50 115 grain FMJs, I'm definitely thinking about it. For me, $20 for 50 (.40 per round) is my pain point. I'd spend it, but grudgingly. What's yours?

^^^ That's the norm in good times....I pad .40/round, but it was for Gold Dot JHP; 1000 will last me a while of that stuff. The basic 115/124 TMJ Speer Lawman was .018; bought a few thousand of that to hold me over.

> $11/50 box for Federal AE 147 gr. FMJ-FP.

No-go zone.

Been paying $35 for boxs of 50 on target sports before they sold out a week or so ago. Im happy with my stockpile. Could always use more.

I once said I'd never pay $1 for a gallon of gas or a burger. But I do, and consider either a bargain at $1 today.

Unless you already have a good supply of components hand loading isn't going to do you any good. Suppliers are out of bullets, primers, and powder just like they are out of loaded ammo. And if you have a good supply of loaded ammo bought at pre shortage prices you're in just as good of a place as the guys who stocked up on components. And components aren't going to be available again until supplies of loaded ammo catch up with demand. Loaded ammo will be back on the shelves before components.

And even though I have a pretty good supply of everything I need I'm going to do what most everyone else is doing. Shoot less.

There are probably a lot of folks (like me) who cannot formulate an objective answer to your question because of an ample supply of 9mm laid in prior to the latest crunch. I am not tempted to buy any 9mm at all at the current elevated prices and do not need to.

Now , if the supply/price situation does not correct in another year or so , some of us will re-enter the retail market ; then your question will become even more interesting. There may be even more pressure on the supply down the road ; $20 per 50 might look pretty darned good.

I'll say this : I saw some "white bread" brass cased 115 grain at a local shop recently at $21.95 per 50 ; it made me cringe.

As luck would have it, I was in Al's Sporting Goods in Logan, Utah last Saturday and they had lots of Blazer 115 gr "brass" 9mm ammo on sale for $11.99 a box of 50 - limit 5 per customer.
I was tempted, but didn't because I already have a decent supply of store-bought ammo on hand, and I'm a reloader with a better than decent supply of components on hand too. Besides, I've never fired even one round of "Blazer" ammo, so I don't know how good it is or isn't, and I didn't feel like buying any of it just to find out.;)

I was doing great not needing 9mm ammo with the absence of 9mm firearms in my pile. May have figured out why the really nice P228 was such a good price. I knew better...heck, I even gave some 9mm ammo away. So now, IF I could find brass ammo for $20/50...maybe even $25, I'd buy a couple of boxes. I have everything I need to load for it, but man....I hate to waste my good 38 Super bullets in a 9mm.

Is there a shelter for malnourished firearms? I know it looks neglected but feed costs so much...

I have plenty of room in my shelter, enough love and ammo to go around.

This latest panic got me to buy dies for 223 and 9mm, and I have everything but small rifle primers and 9mm bullets. It's frustrating, and I'll not pay what the scalpers want for the primers. As far as the bullets, maybe I'll start casting.

.30 per round is it for me.
When it was .16-.18 per, didn't pay to reload it. Different story now. Used to shoot 3-4 times a week. Reduced it to 1-2. Noticed fewer people at the range as well.
Have a good supply of 45 so been shooting that some.
Just the beginning I think.

My pain point was back in 2005 or so when 50 rounds of WWB was $3.99 and I started reloading 9mm again to gain a competitive advantage, it cost me more and I also had to spend the time to reload the stuff, than just buying ready to shoot ammunition. Not to mention just leaving brass on the range vs picking it up.

My subsequent advancement also disappointed a number of others that had to do the same to keep up.
