9mm target load

It's good to "take it easy" some times.

That's why I bake cookies and bake rolls/bread ... Great distraction and wife and I end up having something to eat too. šŸ˜šŸ˜˜
Youā€™re making me hungry.

This morning I stopped into the store room before work to pull some .38 Spl brass. I need some light loads for the weekend. 109gr LTC over 3.5gr Bullseye. Itā€™s a staple for water bottles. The profile is almost identical to the 9mm .356ā€ NLG equivalent. I have a Herters seater setup for that type.

Dang.. I had to bring these 147 RMR down to 1.108 for them to function correctly

that sounds normal to you?

Looks ok to me. Caniks are kinda known for shorter throats so I keep mine between 1.10ā€ and 1.107ā€.
Looks about right. FWIW, these OAL should work in just about all factory barrels - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/9mm-target-load.927857/page-4#post-12844503

HS6 has the best accuracy over the longest time. Iā€™ve tried Titegroup too and it shot well but I only had a small sample to try. I use these in a Canik Mete as a bullseye pistol.
In 9mm I have found HS-6 to really excel with the heavier weight bullets (147 grain). Especially when worked up safely to higher charge range! In my case, MAX listed charge.

For lighter bullets I've had good results with HP-38 and WinClean 244.

It's using a recipe either way! I am just learning how to bake, but I have LOTS of other cooking tools my wife keeps buying me! I never knew how much I liked cooking...

It shoots DEWC from a 357 Mag at magnum velocity (1100) very accurately too. Itā€™s a little more expensive than some powders just because it uses a little higher charge relatively speaking. For 9mm itā€™s hard to beat.

for pistol, I just really that you should buy the best powder regardless of cost. 1 pound, does well over 1,000 9mm or 45

Iā€™m getting my wife a Shun Premiere 6-1/2ā€ utility knife for her birthday.

Itā€™s a $400 knife and worth every penny.
I easily have more money invested in kitchen knives, appliances and gadgets than in reloading gear. But my knives are restaurant quality Japanese folded carbon steel or Solingen steel forged and welded.
We all have priorities.

Titegroup and W231 are about 2000 rounds of 9mm or 38 Special. I donā€™t know if theyā€™ll beat the accuracy of HS6 but they are close.

If you use that knife to open boxā€¦ Iā€™m going to be mad at you. My in-law used my brand new Shun Premium 8ā€ to chop pork bones and destroyed it! So MAD

Anyways. I had to bring down the COL of the 147 to 1.080ā€ that feed all 3 guns Iā€™m testing. I love that sound when a round feeds flawlessā€¦ a Smooth Clunk!

Testing soon on the 147 RMR + #5

I agree.

1 pound powder = 7,000 grains.

With the 147 gr bullet:

Win 231 3.0-3.4 grains
N320 3.1-3.9 grains

Using 3.3 grains with zero spillage (LOL! Not me!) a person can load

7000 / 3.3 = 2,121 bullets. So letā€™s say if you are real messy, probably 2,000 bullets.

$50 lbs / 2000 = $0.025 per round
$40 lbs / 2000 = $0.02 per round

It matters, but itā€™s pretty dependent on how much you shoot to make a difference on my powder choice.

Nice. See, we tell you the TRUTH from actual reloading experience! šŸ˜

Look forward to your range report #5.

Titegroup and W231 ... I donā€™t know if theyā€™ll beat the accuracy of HS6
At below high-to-near max load data of HS-6, Titegroup/W231/HP-38/Sport Pistol/Bullseye will produce smaller groups. At high-to-near max load data, HS-6 produced good accuracy. I tested HS-6 for USPSA but for barely meeting major power factor, I went with WSF instead.

WSF/BE-86 can produce accuracy even down to mid-range load data and BE-86 down to lower charges approaching published start charges.

And for me, WST produced most accurate 9mm loads followed by BE-86 (Sub 2" at 25 yards) closely trailed by Bullseye/Titegroup/Sport Pistol around 2" groups and W231/HP-38 at 2"+ groups (I replaced Bullseye with No 2 due to recent price increase of Alliant powders).

I have several knife sets and task specific knives in WĆ¼sthof, Victorinox, KitchenAid, Cuisinart, Kuma, Chicago Cutlery and NSF grade restaurant supply knives - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/kitchen-knife-recommendations.915151/#post-12532933

My favorite is Kuma that keeps winning "Best of ..." and beat out $160 WĆ¼sthof Chef knife in sharpness test using different whetstone

In recent "out of the box" sharpness knife challenge in 2022, Kuma once again came out on top on rope cutting torture test with 92 cuts beating out Mercer Millennia with 80 cuts (28:50 minute of video) - https://www.burrfection.com/videos/v/20buckknives

Here are the 1st results.

But 1st, the Berry 124 RN 3.8 Universal 1.115ā€ shoots great with almost all the guns tested today. Last photo is STI with 124 Berry

147gn RMR
#5 5.0 - 4.8 - 4.5 (forgot to bring)
1.075 to 1.080
Guns: Bul Government, CZ S2 SRO, STI DVC

147 conclusion with #5 .. Powder is very fine, donā€™t really like it. But very consistent accuracy results

That looks like some good shooting. I just have a few questions.

At what distance did you test your loads? Did you use a rest? Did you measure you group sizes? Why only 3 shot groups?

Looks like you are trying to find an accurate AA#5 load. I have not done a lot with AA#5, but the most accurate for me so far in 9mm is the following load. I think I had a flyer using my red dot:
9mm, P365X, 3.1"
Case: WIN
COL: 1.075"
RMR, 115gr, MPRJHP, AA5, 6.4gr, FED100
Average: 1052
ES: 30
SD: 11.9
Force: 283
PF: 120
Velocities: 1059, 1070, 1040, 1045, 1050
Grouping @ 15yd: 0.81"
Test Date: 07/07/2022

7 yards off hand

3 shoot, IDK really, if I can put 2 shots close to each other, 3rd is a pull or something

I donā€™t really measure, if it looks good, Iā€™ll ok with that

Iā€™m mostly trying to practice and get my load right for Steel Challenge & maybe USPSA (again)

Understood. So the key is to make PF and accuracy is secondary.

Just a correction on my previous post. I indicated "I have done a lot with AA#5", but it should be "I have not done a lot with AA#5". I have corrected my pervious post.

Enjoy your quest to find a good target load and make PF.

I know you are looking for a 9mm load. My most accurate load with the RMR 147gr and 124gr Match winner bullets are actually in 357sig. These bullets are very accurate. You just need to find the perfect combination.

I have like 2 or 3 thousand of those bullets! Just need the powder!
