I dont know if it is necessarily a change, or re-affirming it in stronger language.

But, we need to hammer home that gun rights ARE civil rights.

Just like the right to vote, the right to free speech, the right to a fair trial, etc etc etc...owning a firearm is a civil right.

And we need to hammer home that organizations such as Brady are anti-civil rights groups. Their goals are to systematically, over time, violate the civil rights of millions of Americans.

We should be consciously framing discussions of gun rights as civil rights. We need to win the battle of 'labeling' that the antis currently are winning.

Thoughts?

This ties in with the fact that guns are civilization.

In my opinion, it ties into a whole lot of things.

But, it is also supported by case law.

Heller affirmed that armed self defense is an individual right.

Mcdonald incorporated the fact that armed self defense is an individual right, to the states.

Incorporation with the 14th Amendment has typically been the route for 'civil rights'

As I said in another thread, I would love to see a sea of gun owners chanting "Gun rights are civil rights". I would love to see bumper stickers.

I think it could totally reframe the discussion, and we need something.

Of course it's a Civil Rights issue

What I want to know is this: if the new laws NYS bullied down our throats in the middle of night aren't deemed as unConstitutional and overturned by SCOTUS or the Federal Courts does that mean that the next George Wallace can re-institute segregation???? Or would President Obama have the National Guard move in to ensure those Civil Rights are protected?????

That's right Jaybird. We have many rights, including responsible firearm ownership. Depending on the admin in office, both locally and nationally, we are forced to sculpt our behavior to play the game. Bastards.

Of course it civil rights.

To bad there wasnt a national civil rights organization that stood up for the people on things like this.

If I were to sart such an organization, I would call it something like 'ACLU'
