A good AR15 barrel 1-7 20+"

Hello all,
Me and my father are building 2 AR15's one is for plinking and defense in an M4 carbine style in 5.56 NATO 1-9 (the $299 AR stoner A3 upper from midway), the other is for target on a budget and hunting his criteria is he wants to reach out 800yds (not for hunting just target) I want to go with a .223 REM barrel in 1-7 twist 20" or more barrel and preferably it comes with a matched bolt. I want a dedicated .223rem so I can develope a reload with heavy bullets particularly these new monolithic bullets. Is there any recommendations my head is swimming looking through the options, also just to reiterate I'm looking for just the barrel and hopefully matched bolt so the rest of the upper can be cheap from sorced sales and what not.

When I designed my 20" rig, I looked at several including Wilson's SS 20, White Oak, but settled on the Rainier Select Medcon 20. I have a Wilson barrel on another rifle and it's great, I even thought I'd stick with Wilson on the 20", but the Rainier won my interest. any of them would likely be outstanding in their own right, I suppose.

Looks like JP Enterprises sends their barrels out with matched bolts.

I would love to have one of their barrels in my current build, but $500 is a lot of money. Then to drop another $200 or so on a free-float rail. Everything adds up quick.

Matched bolts are over-rated in AR's.

For barrels, Kreiger, Shilen, Broughton, WOA, BHW, Wilson, Dtech/Shilen.

They offer many options. You could get a 26" 1:6.5 twist barrel fitted to your existing bolt. I'm just sayin', from what you said in your original post.

I have a Wilson 1:8 20" SS barrel and it's a tack driver.
1:8 is the way to go.

Just buy a white oak upper, will not be disappointed!
