I occasionally check in on one of the RFC online matches. The competitors tend to shoot iron sighted target rifles and post the scores in the forum entitled Benchrest 50 Yard Iron Sight Matches with NRA A-23/5

I had been wanting to give it a try with my 452 FS and its Tech Sights.

The conditions were marvelous at the range this morning – cool, clear, and very little wind.

I got set up, pinned up a target, and started finding a zero.

The rifle was grouping well with the Wolf MT and SK Std Plus.

The two types of ammunition were virtually interchangeable, but I decided to go with the SK Std Plus after this bull.

I started on the target for score and visions of a 200 flashed through my brain. Unfortunately, my eyes got tired and a little fuzzy in the third bull (lower left). I managed to hold on for a final score of 197-9X.

I think I will try this once a week for a while. The rifle will shoot a 200 if I can. Without having to chase a zero first, the chances are better my eyes will hold up through an entire target.

Good shooting!

How do you like those tech sights? i was thinking about those for my 452; but am mixed because the higher sight line might mess with my cheek weld.

It's a little higher but provides for a far "tighter" hold than when trying to scope one of these hogsbacked stocked CZs. I have been shooting it with the peeps now for several months and really like it.

I save the glass for my CZ American and CZ Varmint.

Actually, I love shooting the iron sighted CZ 452s with the factory sights, but my club has a peep sighted class in our local 50 yard silhouette fun match, and I use the FS in that event. Now, I have two games to shoot it in.

I think CZ only offered the CZ 452 American and CZ 452 Lux in left handed models. Now that they are phasing in the 455 (yuck!), only the American is available in a left handed model. However, you can check their website at CZUSA, to make sure.

Getting closer to that 200 mark

The weather conditions were awesome this morning at Crooked Oak. 70 degrees, light to no winds, and partly cloudy. A good morning for peep sight shooting.

I was tempted to try another target, but I had the 452 Varmint in tow (for practicing USBR technique) and felt it best not to press. I'll shoot that full stocked 200 next week - possibly, hopefully, surely, maybe.

I have the 455 FS and it's not to yuck.. I thought the same thing at first, but it will shoot better than I can with iron sights (and I do pretty well). I love to sit down with a 22 and iron sights I have a 40X with Redfield Olympic, Anschutz mark 2000 peep, and enjoy them all.

I also have a CZ thumbhole varmint 452 they are nice no doubt about it. I purchased the 455 FS in mind if I didn't like the barrel system I would thread, or bush it, however I see no need to do so.

That is some very nice shooting from you, and your CZ

Thanks.

I had the 452 Varmint out there as well this morning. We really came together for some nice groups:

After a few fouling rounds, I shot six 5 shot groups. I concentrated on consistency of variables with especial attention given to trigger finger placement. Seems to be working, don't ya' think?

All the groups' measurements are provided as center-to-center.

Thanks for posting, nice shooting. Even nicer is your 452 FS. I have a Lux and an American. Both shoot extremely well. Life is good.

Awesome shooting! That fired me up to break out the 452 for this weekend's shooting trip.

Very impressive groups with irons/nice cz. After ordering tech sights for my ak47, will be ordering another set...plus one for my 452fs and maybe one for the ruger talo.

Very nice shooting. I have a question. What's causing all of that brightness I see in your pictures......oh, I think that's the sun. I haven't seen the sun in so long I've forgotten what it looks like.

Begging for non hoarded prices local for 22 ammo bulk for kids and I to practice. Best bang for my buck so far is old $8 boxes of winchester dynapoint, some sugar or hamburger meat (both ?) on target to shoot the real vermin flies and such. You have to get creative in order to shoot that cherished, vintage good bulk, and get good consistent kills. LOL. we call it our little safari...

It is documented a skeeter (mosquito) from GA can stand flat footed and rape a full grown Alabama turkey, but yes those summer months are more than just the sun beaming down, the biting insects and gnats known ad police interceptors will be in full force at ny range. They are collecting data for the NSA and have been on the drone list for more than anyone knows.

Dang I wish I could see well enough to shoot like that with irons. I have never been able to shoot with glasses for some reason and I don't think my eyes are going back to being able to see like I once could. That's excellent shooting with irons. It's excellent shooting period. The fact it was done with iron sights is just plain impressive. I knew a guy a long time ago that never used a scope for anything. He always said if you could see it you can shoot it. I've seen him drop a crow from 500 yards with iron sights with a cold bore. I couldn't even make out it was a crow until I saw it falling and flapping it's wings. Apparently it can be done by some people. That guy had been a sniper in WWII. He taught us a lot about shooting when I was a kid. He was a pretty decent fisherman too.
