Checklist for May PM Match:

1. print targets
2. shoot targets
3. mail targets
4. repeat until:
4a. satisfied
4b. or until deadline, whichever comes first

Step 1. - Check.
Why do I have this feeling I'l be working on 4b? :)

Fast, go ahead and shoot it. If you do really well we can always disqualify you :neener::p:D

If it is a rifle that you could realistically pack around all day, shoot unrested and doesn't make you weep if it gets a few dings on the stock then it is probably OK. Just note any modifications and include a blood sample to be tested for steroids with your entry ;)

The goal is to get us shootin', havin' fun and hopefully inspire Nem to go to the range and put holes in some targets.

Spirit of the Game

Hi
I think these have always been just plain fun matches. The full spirit of this month's match is in the last sentence and is trully up to the conscience of the competitor. Just my nickles worth

I don't own a super stock.

I was asking because I don't want to try competing against thousand dollar custom target rifles while shooting my unmodified $130 dollar model 60.

It would be like lining up at the drag strip next to John Force's funny car while I'm driving my Toyota pickup. Not fun!

Having said all that... I'm looking forward to pulling my model 60 out and shooting some groups.

Count me in!

Marksman, yes you can use what ya got ... even if it lacks the style and fun factor of a lever gun they still have their place in the safe, at the range and in the field. Sometimes those of us blessed with model 39's forget about those "other" rifles and require a reminder or need a reason to shoot the "lesser" action types :p :D

Sarduy, it is 'tradition' in these matches to score them in the open sight category, 1x scopes too. We will continue that interpretation in this match too.

I'd really love to put my Mossberg up against the Marlin 39s, but I don't think a rifle with a 27" bull barrel and target apertures qualifies as a squirrel rifle:p

I'll shoot my squirrel slaying Remington 581 with the trashco 4x scope on it.

What does "originally had iron sights" mean? How about a cz 452 that came with no sights for scoping?

OK, let me get this straight, we shoot unsupervised, anywhere, and on the honor system, we send the targets that we have shot along with the discription of the rifle and sights along with the targets to be scored and our names will go in the benchrest hall of fame?? More or less.:D

I have a very accurate squirrel rifle, equipped with a 6.5X20 Leupold scope, I hunt this rifle, but normally change the scope to a 4X12 Leupold. We shoot five shot groups without a moving backer at 25 yards?

Clarify the rules for me, because I want to play!

Woof, I have one of those CZ 452's without any iron sights too. It's a one hole gun at 50 yards but for this match, it doesn't qualify.

You can use a scope if you want as long as the rifle's barrel has a front sight on it.

X-ring, sounds like you have it figured out. Go out and have some fun. I've heard rumor that Sports Illustrated is interested in putting the winner on the cover surrounded with the Bikini issue models.

Hi Frank
A lot of people like those Muellers. That thing is almost as big as your M60. I wouldn't worry about those fancy guns none, with that combo, you should be able to take them on OK. They are still 10-22's.:uhoh: And we still have M60's.:) It's the heart that counts.;) By the way, how are you doing with the mount on the M39 and the Leuopold?

May I ask why we aren't allowed to use a gun that originally did not have iron sights, even for the scoped competition?

Joe, my reasoning is that most folks probably have one or two of em' in the safe or propped up behind the kitchen door. Hopefully we can keep it about marksmanship and not about the rifles or ego.

It is more about challenging yourself to do the best you can with what ya got and having fun. The "results" show us what is possible and give us something to "shoot for" (pun intended) the next time around.

It is my sincere hope that these matches get more folks having fun shooting even if you are 39 difficient.

Shakey Jake- I haven't done anything with the 39. I'm still seeking a mount that meets my approval. I haven't given up on it yet.

About the Mueller, Yes I like it quite a bit. It makes that Leupold I have on my 39 look pretty poor in just about every way. The fact that it's so big is the only reason why I don't have one on my 39.

Joe Kidd- We pretty much only have two choices...

Either we limit the guns, or it's anything goes.

While "Anything Goes" would produce some amazing targets, it would almost guarantee that the common folks like myself would not be able to compete.

I like Mo's idea of restricting this match to guns that originally came with an iron sight. It leaves some wiggle room for us to pretty much shoot any of the common .22 rifles, and prevents anybody from "Buying" the match by showing up with some exotic competition rifle that we can't compete with.

And finally, MO- Thanks for starting another shoot.

I'm loading up my range bag and printing targets as we speak for a range trip tomorrow.

I hope I can do my model 60 some justice. It's a nice shooting rifle.

I'll be finding out in the morning. Wish me luck!

I'm all for keeping it fair for the the average person. I guess I just don't see a difference between someone being allowed to enter who has a CZ 452 Lux, but not if you've got a CZ 452 American, when anyone can buy both.

In my opinion the American was developed for field use, which conforms to the rules.

At any rate, next month I should have my Marlin 39A...

BUMPITYBUMPBUMP :DI know that to some people the stickies are like the instruction manuals, there but not there,:neener: but when you slip to page 2 or 3 in 24hrs do to the popularity of the forum, WOW. By Page 2 you are old news and Page 3 ancient history for getting newbies. :uhoh:

Well boys you better saddle up and git shootin'! The bar is set mighty high again this month and it'll take some doin' to edge it up even higher.

Last month's winner, Dr. Twigs, sent in a dandy 100 yard target using Blazer ammo. I'm betting even the bolt guys are going to have a tough time matching this one.

I think the last time I bought any Blazer ammo was in the 70's and I still have some. Don't remember it shooting that well... I may need to plunk a few down range and see where they go.

JW also posted some nice 25 yard targets. He's got a group that I haven't measured yet but could challenge Mal's amazing winning group two matches ago.
