Benchmark

Took the Mountie out with some Federal Bulk ammo and managed a pretty good target. Three in the 10 ring (no X's) one in the 9 and a flier high in the 7 ring. The four are just barely beyond what a quarter can cover but no problem for three - 5 point bonus! 46+5=51 Something for y'all to shoot for.

Pretty easy target this month. I tried a couple "John Wayne style," but found that my groups were a good bit lower than my front rested groups. With more time and fresher eyes I'm guessing I could improve the score with the JW bonus.

Get out and shoot!

I took a run at the target Saturday. Put a scope on the Savage but the results weren't what I expected. With a 6-24X scope it really shot no better than with peeps. It would start to pile shots up and then ...flyers. The mounts were a little screwy though so it may do better yet. This will be no walk in the park.

Shot one last night. I have done some tweakin' on the Savage and didn't quite get zeroed. Still...

3 X 10
2 X 9
+10 for 4 under the coin.
No X

Scope didn't give me much so I'm back to peeps. Didn't occur to me till now but if I hadn't pulled a low flyer, this would have been my first sub 1/2" at 50 yd. With the flyer it's just under an inch. Bout average for us. Expect an update. :D

Hello: I shot the August 2008 Rimfire Match Today. I think I got 5 X's. I know they can be covered with a nickel. The attachments are the same target. Flyrodder

WOW!

Nice Shootin' FlyRodder! Off a picnic table no less! That's a fine demonstration of your skill and your rifle choice. I'd hate to be a squirrel in your neck of the woods...

That got you top spot in the Scoped division. We'll just have to wait and see if you have to share it with anyone else.

Again, EXCELLENT shootin' pard!

The 17 gets Demonstration Sport Status

The Federation Of Old Lazy Shooters (FOOLS for short) has approved 17 caliber rimfire firearms into the match as a "Demonstration Sport." The FOOLS official position is that choice of rimfire caliber need not be divisive and including them in the match will well to honor of the Olympic Spirit. The FOOLS now welcome 17 caliber rimfire shooters.

The rules are the same except the targets must be shot at 100 yards.

Be safe, have fun.

JustsayMo,

Thank you for adding .17 cal rimfires at 100 yards!!!

I'm shooting my targets next week after I install my new trigger. I will help spread the word.

I hope I can enter my handgun target shot with my Ruger Mk II and a 2X scope for sights. I'm not sure about using a scope for the Handgun entry. Here's my handgun entry if allowed to use a scope shot at 25yds.
Thanks, Flyrodder

Shimmed up the scope base on the Savage today and improved my score a bit. I couldn't really zero it before.

5 X 10
2 Xs
25 point "nickel bonus"

My first .5" group at 50yd with the rifle. Well, it's .520" but I'm claiming it anyway.
3 shots are in one small hole and I can't tell if one or two of those were Xs. We'll just say one plus another clear X.

Savage MkII FVT
Tasco 6-24X scope
Hoppes front rest
Cheap Blazer ammo

PS, I'm considering a protest of flyrodder's first entry. He clearly fired 4 .22 rounds with the fifth round being 7.62. This kind of showboating cannot be allowed.

Seriously, beautiful shooting. I can only dream.

Well here I go, the first of several targets (I hope). This is a new gun, still getting used to each other. Its favorite ammo (so far), I didnt get to shoot today because of the rain. On the wolf ammo target I also included part of a redfield target when trying to zero my scope. Shooting lots of different ammo so my scope turrets are getting a workout. Ah-oh, just realized I didnt include a nickel. Oh well, maybe Ill get credit anyway.
Good luck guys and gals,
Carl

Fine shooting gentlemen!

I shot some targets last weekend with my CZ American and my Ruger single six. Didn't manage anything competitive but it was an enjoyable exercise.

Keep it up!

I finally got out with my trusty Biathlon Basic last weekend. I shot my best ever target at 50yds! After setting up my last board, (the first two sucked, so I needed to do something else) I worked around the range for an hour or so, and wasn't going to shoot, but decided that since it was already up...

This was my 9th and last target of the day, and the first time I ever got under 1/2 inch with my BB. :D:D That black spot on the target is a dime, and the group fits under it completely.

About the middle of Summer, I was about to get discouraged with the rifle, since I NEVER got a decent group, and couldn't tell if it was all me, or if the BB wasn't as accurate as I hoped. (Did I mention I suck in the accuracy department?) So I had a couple of ex-military range members shoot a few groups after the monthly meeting, and whaddya know? It is a one-hole rifle. Excellent! Now I know that any variance is all me. It's hard to verify how accurate a rifle is if you can't shoot anywhere near its capabilities. But when you know it's a lot of fun trying to improve.

Hopefully by this time next year, I'll have my first 1/4 group. It's something to shoot for.
RT

P.S. Jenny, the club secretary, is going to a gun show this weekend looking for one. She's who proved it's a one-holer.

Nice shooting!

So far I'm in last place in Scoped, Iron and Handgun with NO challengers. Y'all aren't going to let me sweep that competition are ya?:p;)

I got out with a couple of more today. The 513T at 50 yards, and the 511 at 25 yards in the Mossyback division.

The 513T was going good until another guy showed up at the range and after chatting and shooting a while, gave me some Lapua Master L. Wow! :what: I wish I could afford that stuff! Anyway, it'll fit under a dime but POI was juuust a bit right of my Fed Automatch. So it's:
5 x 10
4x
25 bonus
75 Points

The 511 at 25 yards wasn't as impressive, but I'm still pretty happy. I just can't get the hang of those stock 5-teen sights. Love the rifles, but my eyes hate the sights. Blame the variance on me, not my rifle. (It's amazing. Me? Not so much.) Anyway...
5 x 10
4X
25 bonus
75 points.

One of these days I'll get a 5x.

My .22 pistol was stolen a couple of months ago, and I haven't replaced it yet. Otherwise I'd give you some competition. ;) Just print out a target, and score it with no holes. That's what my pistol target would look like anyway.

RT: Good to see those old Remingtons still do the job. I have a 511P that I keep wanting to enter some targets with but never get the time to. So much to shoot, so little time ...

I figured I might as well do a John Wayne version of the mossyback. So, I took out my 1945 Remington 510 today. Out of 3 targets, this was the best. At least all shots scored. :D

10 + 9 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 42
John Wayne style = 25
Total - 67

I know where I need to practice now!

rain,rain, go away......

My first attempt at an online shoot.....
Spent all the early afternoon shooting at 100yds with my three rifles (243,22 sporter, 22 target rifle) testing ammunition. Then I decided it was time to go shoot my "online" targets so I moved down to the 50yd range and set up again. Had to sight in the rimfires for 50yds (pulled the scope off the target rifle to go back to the iron sights) [storm coming......darkening, wind picking up...] began shooting the targets, 2 from the sporter, one from the target rifle and then one more from the sporter. Of the 4 targets, the best 2 were shot in the rain. 15 more minutes elapsed before I was able to get a cease-fire to go get the targets downrange. shooting benches are roofed but the targets aren't. Targets attached, after a good drying out.....;),
The first one scored 68 by my reckoning, shot with 1959 Winchester 52c, with Redfield sight (simple .020" slot rear sight, blade front), using 30 year old Western Super-Match Mark III ammo.
probably 10mph winds.
Second target, scored 67 by my reckoning, shot with a sporterized 1920 Winchester 52, with Leupold VX-I 3-9x, using the same ammo as the other.
not so windy by this time, but full steady rain. :cuss:
Wish I would have had more time to sight in to get into the 10ring.....:banghead:

This is WAY fun, guys. I've only been a member of this forum for a few weeks, how often do you do this sort of thing?? I love the rimfires, need to find me some more ammo that tastes good in my rifles though, they like this old stuff and the Federal Ultra-Match UM1. Want to try the Wolf Extra-Match, Eley Tenex, and RWS when I get a chance.
