BUMPITYBUMPBUMP I know that to some people the stickies are like the instruction manuals, there but not there, but when you slip to page 2 or 3 in 24hrs do to the popularity of the forum, WOW. By Page 2 you are old news and Page 3 ancient history for getting newbies.

Not to worry, Ted. I understand that each shooter is on a separate page!
Cheer up, Bucky! Things aren't as bad as they seem. :)

[Note to self: I wonder if this means I'm gonna have to shoot a one-hole group?!]

I've got to get my wife to do this...
She is waay better than I am

A comment on eligible rifles: First let me say I appreciate all the work that goes into this and everyone who makes it happen deserves a medal! And I also admit there is no way to overcome all the technicalities and hair-splitting that would arise from very detailed rifle eligibility rules. That said, can't it be carved a little more sharply that just what rifle originally had a front sight?

My case is a cz 452 American. 22 inch barrel and stock is made for scoping. No sights, not eligible. I happen to know an entrant in this match will be shooting a cz 452 lux. This rifle has a 28.6 (!!) inch barrel and 20x magnification. But it comes with iron sights - eligible.

I have a cz 513 basic with iron sights, a plinker. I can put a scope on it just for this match. I won't cheat and use the 452. But I would suggest something that might work better than the presence of a front sight. Since this is all an honor system anyway, how about saying no rifles with a current market value over x or y? Sure that opens a can of worms too, but a rifle with a value over (you pick it) is more likely to truly be a "ringer" than a rifle (some are pretty cheap) made for a scope and with no front sight.

Confused!!!

I'm TOTALLY confused!!! Why not just have one contest with iron sights only and one contest with scope only? People can enter one or both. As far as red-dot, I would consider it a scope since it's definitely not an iron sight.

Woof, you make a good case. I can relate because I have a CZ American that is probably my most accurate rifle ( target photo at: http://www.grovestreet.com/PicPage.do?id=1168549 )

I think the solution would have been ( or could be) to create an unlimited class in addition to the other divisions. I'm not opposed to adding it for the 100 yard target but feel the 25 yard match isn't going to challenge the Benchrest/Varmint/sniper rifle crowd or be much fun to score.

I REALLY don't want these matches to get so serious and nit-picky that the fun evaporates and only elite shooters participate. There are plenty of those matches around already. "Been there, done that." My goal is to get people shooting targets with the rifles they hunt with, or wouldn't typically use in a "competition." It gives us some incentive to do our best, have fun and get some satisfying unexpected results with rifles that aren't supposed to be that accurate.

blkbrd; it was debated and decided during the Thanksgiving Day match that Red Dots and Scopes without magnification would compete in the iron sight class. I have chosen to continue the tradition. So far it hasn't been much of an issue and Fast Frank's RD experiment made it interesting.

I agree with woof. The best way to limit it is to have another criteria related to the value of the rifle, ie:

- The rifle should originally come with iron sights, or if not, shall not exceed an original purchase price of $X.

What do you guys think?

Dem's Da Rules

+1 to Fast Frank
I stand by my early post. These are a FUN SHOOTS. The rules are kept simple. It is the honor system because we are honorable shootists honoring the spirit of the rules. Now get out the rifle that qualifies and go shoot it. Better yet find someone and use it as an excuse to introduce them to shooting. And for those who think there are a lot of people working this match: Meet the committee:Mo
Thanks for your dedication Mo, you are giving a lot of shooters a lot of fun.

Well, shots fired...

But I'm not happy.

It was a little gusty, and I'm a little rusty, and my targets just won't cut the mustard.

I've saved them and I will submit them if I can't do better, but I want to try again next week.

Been away a while Mo, but this looks like one I can play in - thanks for another fine job organizing!

Got a CD Superior II -- or whatever Remington calls them these days -- just begging to be shot and a bunch of cheapie Federals WalMart had on sale a while ago... Think I'll be printing out some targets and heading to the range!

Just a comment in general: I for one, enjoy an offbeat reason to get out and shoot. Keeping to the spirit of these things adds to the fun - for me.

I'm in... me and my 597 will give it a go...
The grey one...

Speaking of targets, the target for this shoot is pretty difficult to shoot groups on.

There's no specific aim point in the middle of that black circle.

I guess it's the same for everybody, so there's nothing to complain about.:D

I'll be shooting this one again Monday, and I sure hope I do better than I did last week.

Fast Frank sez: There's no specific aim point in the middle of that black circle.

Just put your first round somewhere in the black, and use that hole as your aim point. 'S what I'm gonna do. Or try, anyways... :D

Did this to try some different ammos...

You didn't tell us if that was offhand, prone, sitting, bench...

But let's remember, too... the important thing is YOU are your competition. In my mind, anyway, if I'm improving my shooting, then I'm doing something right. It's when I begin to steadily decline, then I'll start to be concerned.

Allright, you greedy hamburgers, I mean when my SHOOTING begins to steadily decline!

Well, shots fired.

I went into this expecting to put down some nice little one hole groups, like I've done before with this rifle.

I have to remind myself that I can't duplicate the best groups I ever shot, five times in a row, on demand.

Today's target looks so much like last week's target it could be a carbon copy.

I guess it's a fair representation of how I shoot that rifle.

(Hey! Isn't that what we're looking for in the first place?)

I dropped them both in an envelope and off to MO's house they go.

One more time, THANK YOU MO for putting on these matches.

Not only does it get me out shooting my toys, but it opens my eyes to how I REALLY shoot, and separates the fantasy from the reality.

So, I'm not the only one shooting this target so inconsistently... I don't feel so bad now... LOL... was still a lot of fun... Will be doing it again...

Fast Frank, Targets are here. I haven't had the chance to score them yet.

That Model 60 of yours is a tack driver. NICE TARGETS dude!

Dr. Twigs is still smoking the competition in the 100 yard side match.

JohnMcl is currently on assignment and unable to participate. Bummer!
