I Can't Count!!!

Down at the range and ringing up a super target. Looks like a winner from the bench. After I get it back to the bench something funny looking about it. The second target appears to have 4 holes and the third target has 6 holes. This can not be. I am very careful. From now on I will only load 5 shots for each bull. I will try to take a picture later. Irony is #2 is upper right and #3 is lower left. Center is good threesome also.:banghead: Did get to meet a cool gentleman who has a model 39 and so does his dad. Gave him an extra target and heard him leaving, muttering " The High Road, The High Road, The High Road." Hope he finds us.

I missed The Valentines Shoot due to weather. If the snow even shows the slightest sign of melting, I bet I can send in an entry for this one.

Can we draw a Leprechaun on the card?

Nemo,

A 1953-vintage 39 with a Williams peep on the rear. Haven't experimented with ammo, but shoots well enough. Eyes are another story!

Mo,

I have a warm up target done! 24 out of 25 in the white. I'll scan it for your review tomorrow.

Warm-up Target

Now this was a ton of fun;

Here's my warm-up target and hopefully not the one submitted for competition. This was shot in 40 deg weather with CCI Minimags on my young 39A with a 4x Loopold rf scope. The rifle was supported by a front Caldwell rest and a rear Caldwell bag.

Our previous postal matches were of a three shot nature. Jumping from three to 25 shots showed some interesting qualities. I notice that there are enough flyers to go around the room. This is mostly due to shooting irregularities I am sure, but to some smaller degree variances in ammo. This is not match stuff I'm shooting. I've noticed that just as in HP, breath control and the rifle to peeple interface is critical. In short, the gun's doing its job. The problem is the loose screw on the nut on the trigger. :)

On the mechanics, I shot this target in a 'Z' format. Upper left target first, then Upper Right, Center, Lower Left, Lower Right. Only the lower right target, the last, is what I'd call a hot one. The others are studies in marksmanship, or the lack thereof.

The other problem was working the lever. Each time I worked the action, some of the duct tape would work loose and the gummy stuff would get all over my fingers. Then my fingers'd stick to the beer bottle. *blah* (just kidding for you anti-2A-ers reading this thread. Responsibility in marksmanship above all things.)

Ok, who knows why duct tape is like the Force? There's a light side, a dark side, and it keeps the universe together.

Have fun guys. Mo, you da' man....

Thanks for the teaser johnmcl.

I'm hoping to get out tomorrow, my day off, but learned last night my wife bought a new dishwasher to be delivered at 9am. I'm the designated installer so there goes the morning. Still, I'm hoping to get out. Got the targets all printed, the rifle and rests are right here ready to go. We'll see how things work out.

Twenty-five shots per target. Half a box. Whooee! This is going to be fun and a whole lotta shootin'.

JSimmons,

Technically there's no restriction or requirement for a rest. Go ahead and read the rules on page one of this thread. You can shoot off-hand if you want. You'll be giving up a lot as we're mostly on the bench this time around

There is no separate off hand, or 'John Wayne' class this time.

If you do it "John Wayne" style I will be sure to note that in the results. If enough folks (even one other) submit a "John Wayne" Target I will make a category for it... So if there are those who didn't get enough shooting with their freestyle entry, go ahead and do another JW and submit both.

Johnmcl: You should get a lot of the credit, you proposed the target and outlined the format. I just put it out there.

I would agree that 25 shots on a target changes the dynamic. Lapses in concentration, ammo irregularities and other factors come into play. A couple of bulls into it and you don't want to start over because of a flier either. After shooting three my last time out I believe this is a good test of mettle and metal :)

John,

Dayum!! That's nothing to sneeze at. I'd be real happy with a target looking that good. Ya set a high standard!

OK, good. Otherwise I'd just throw in the towel right now. I know from the Thanksgiving Shoot that I'm not as good as JOHNMCL's target off-hand/iron sights.

We'll just have to see.

Just for the record ...

Will someone please describe "John Wayne" style?
(I really don't know, but would rather a description be posted than search it.)
