I went to the Florida panhandle Monday to fill a doe tag on a friend's lease. I took the "scenic route" through a National Forest to get there. As I passed a side trail/road, I saw a deer's head sticking out of the bushes. I pulled over, got my rifle, and walked back to the side road. A small buck was walking straight away about 150 yards down it. I put the crosshairs on the back of his neck and thought, "dead deer or clean miss". I shot and he dropped.

I dressed him, put him in a cooler and went on to the lease where I got rained out with a strong cold front moving through.

The next morning deer were moving and I saw 4 bucks but no doe. The skies cleared, the wind picked up and the deer disappeared. So I went stalking to see if I could roust a doe when I slipped on a muddy hill and jammed my shoulder. I decided to throw in the towel and walked back towards the truck. When I got within 200 yards of the truck, I saw 4 does clustered behind some trees ~125 yards away and could see the neck of one of them clearly. I shot and 3 does bounded away leaving a smallish yearling behind with a neck shot.
I cleaned it and drove the 240 miles home.

The doe was the 7th deer I've gotten this year. :)
