Last saturday I decided I was overdue for a range trip. I grabbed my FAL, Saiga, and my M28 Mosin Nagant. For a pistol I packed my CZ 75, but this is the rifle section and the CZ75 is boringly accurate at 7 yards (all I shot that day).

I only have one picture, but I think it's pretty important. First, though, I need to clarify something.

I am at best an average rifle shooter

I can hit what I aim at most of the time. For example, once I got used to the sights and how my mosin handled 200 grain loads, I was hitting a 9 inch group at 100 yards. I limit my rifles big time.

So when I shot this group, I know I caused at least two flyers. This group was shot right after emptying 15 rounds into another target. I decided to empty the rest of the magazine (I didn't know how many rounds I had in the mag, I loaded it a while ago and had shot a little out of it previously). I'm assuming 10 or so rounds were left, after looking at the target.

Hot gun, 1 to 2 seconds between each shot. 4x POSP side-mounted scope. Saiga, 16" barrel .223. I was using a mix of Monarch steel cased ammo and Wolf ammo. Both 55 grain.

Two lower rounds were flyers, my fault most likely. Maybe I got lucky though. I like the fact that it was a real mix-back of ammo I had loaded into that mag. I figure it's not too bad for an AK with extremely cheap mixed ammo and a hot barrel.

My FAL gave groups you would come to expect with SA surplus. 4 or so inches at 100. Even with all my other rifles, my FAL is still my favorite.

And I am happy to report that my M28 did a fine job at 100 yards. I would hate to be a Russian on the opposite end of this gun. I'm taking a deer with my 80 year old rifle this year, just to rub it in the faces of all my cousins with their remchesters and 16x scopes. Already put them to shame with my M44. :)

No problem!

Mine was converted, and even then it cost me next to nothing. $220 for the rifle and maybe $140 for the conversion.
