A Knife in Public... (UK)

There seems to be an interesting dichotomy of conflicting opinions here. On one hand most posters think its dumb for a country to waste its resources convicting a police officer of a victimless crime based on a dumb law. Yet when we have similiar threads that come up with US officers, like the recent one with the illinois state police officers with full auto weapons they weren't supposed to have we have people cheering for them to be hung out to dry and that the only way the people in power will get the message is through equal prosecution of all. Which is it? Seems like a large bit of hypocrisy to me.

How do the law abiding citizens in the UK intend to bring home their kitchen knives?

On another note: can we trade our citizens who want to ban guns for the few Britons left who want to legally own guns? It seems like a fair trade to me: Our sheeple get to associate with their own kind and not foul our streams and their gunnies get to enjoy political asylum and drink cold beer.

Well that would be 'good reason' for having a fixed blade in public. Just like this guy had 'good reason' to have a SAK - unfortunately it had to go to court for the judge to say so.

I'd like to show my unreserved support for this idea :D

I can't say I feel bad for him as an individual as I'm certain he would have had 0 problem arresting any other dangerous retiree with a Swiss army knife.

They get what they deserve,if they think police cameras everywhere and arresting old men keep them safe,go for it guys...

Autolite has it right.

I like this idea too:

I would go for it, if it wouldn't ruin my career.

I'll back the British Oppressed Gunnie Amnesty Relocation Treaty (B.O.G.A.R.T.), but only if they promise to bring some of their native beer... Sorry, chums, but American brews are wretched.

Thain,

You drink the wrong stuff. I'm just hoping I can find some micro brews when I move to Michigan now that you said that. If the bobbies ever looked in my desk drawer at work they would faint!

Colt46: A butcher gets a pass if there is one on the front seat of his car or in a brown paper bag on his lunch break. Just having one without JUSTIFICATION gets you thrown in jail.

In 2003 (cant remember the exact date just now) a Chief was arrested in Glasgow Central Train station (the cops were actually waiting for him when he got off his train) for being in possession of a set of Chief's knives (on his way to his restaurant [the set of knifes was valued at over 2500 GBP btw]) the knives were confiscated by Glasgow police and last I heard he (the Chief) had been sentenced to 3 years in prison.

If I can find the news article online again (if they haven't removed it) I will post a link to it.

by late 2003 to 2005 (when I left that cesspool) nearly everywhere in Scotland you would be subjected to random frisking and warantless searches of your shopping/backpack/briefcase/purse and (depending on the area) if they found anything remotely iffy (metal nail file, large belt buckle, fake ammo key-chain, pocket scissors, etc etc) they would search your vehicle and house/apartment, then they would use quite literally anything they could find as an excuse to arrest you.

Last I heard, in Glasgow and nearby towns police were arresting people they took a disliking to for having steak knives in their homes.

ceetee: When are they going to outlaw possession of things like... cobblestones, bricks, tree limbs, and hob-nailed shoes?

You Can be assured that there is some nut somewhere in the UK trying to do just that as we discuss this.

tank mechanic: I lucked out when I went to England a few years ago. I did not know that they x rayed your bags and passed people through metal detectors when you hop on the train to go to France. They found my Buck knife on my person and a Shrade fixed blade on my buddy. They scooted us aside and told us that it was an automatic trip to jail for carrying around these dangerous instruments of death. After a stern lecture from head security agent, and a trip to a cordoned off area, he told us to stick the knives in the bottom of our bags and lay low until we were out of the country. So there is at least one rational person in charge over there.

:what: Man you got lucky there, far to few cops like that in the UK anymore.

ConfuseUs: How do the law abiding citizens in the UK intend to bring home their kitchen knives?

Essentially (at least in Scotland) they use Smuggler Tactics.

I pray for the sanity of the few decent people left in the UK.

The world would be far better off if the LEos and judges and all others involved in such travesties changed jobs. Unfortunately, it would strain their limits of intellectual competency were they to begin new careers of picking fly poop from pepper.
