I went to a gun show today in hopes of finding a S&W mod. 10 w/ a 3" barrel and a rounded grip. But I came home with a mod. 10-5 w/ a 4" taperd barrel in 99% condition. I already have a 6" 10-5, I wonder how many model 10's I'm going to wind up with ?
I had some trouble posting the pic. I'll try again.

I hope this works

Beautiful M10 jibjab. May I ask how much cash that one set you back?

I paid $275 out the door, I know this is a bit much for a mod. 10, but I could'nt resist. I don't think I could get a new revolver of this quality at that price, to me the mod. 10 is a great value.

thanks Brian

It seems like prices on the old K Frames are climbing lately. I think it's a decent price, and that's a beautiful gun. I paid $200 for a post war M&P thats got some holster wear and a few pits. I'm still happy with both the gun and the price I paid.

I know you can't get a new revolver of that quality at anywhere near that price, and agree that M&Ps/M10s are a great value. Fuff & Xavier have said many times that S&W made so many of them that price will likely never come close to the value you get out of such a fine revolver. The old S&Ws represent (to me at least) the golden age of American gun making, a truly bygone era.

If it makes you feel better the new Cabelas in Boise wants $389 for a S&W 15-4 "Orange County PD." It's got some bluing loss, but looking thru the counter it looked surprisingly good for a former police gun, as the tag claimed it was. After I saw the price I didn't ask for them to take it out of the counter. It also had the thick rubber Pachmayr grips on it, so it didn't even have the S&W Magnas. I thought that was an excessive price. Oddly they also had a holster/pocket worn, but otherwise very nice, Baby Browning 25 auto for $299. It also had the old Browning Arms St. Louis, MO roll mark, not the newer Morgan, UT one. Now I don't know that much about them, what the current market is, or even if Browning discontinued them before the MO to UT move. However, I know that the new Precision Small Arms licensed copy has an SRP of $475. That little Browning seemed a better value to me.

That's a super nice model 10, jibjab! You got it for a great price too! Congratulations on a wonderful find!:what:

That is a gorgeous Model 10-5 Jibjab!

How many will you end up with? I don't know.....They are kind of like penny candy. So darned affordable, and providing so much beauty and shooting value on the dollar they are irresistable! If you count my Model of 1899, and the M&Ps, I am likely up into the double digits now. I ain't countin' though! The subtle variations keep me coming back.

I agree the prices seem to be rising. I am in an etheral Model 10 oasis with two pawn shop owners who have five year old Blue books and do not care. Thus, I am finding them tagged below $200 still. At gun shows I am seeing them in all conditions running from $275 to $400. I'm presently considering a Model 10-5 RB 4 incher for $225. I just can't bring myself to break the $200 mark yet........But the time is coming! If it were a HB or a 3 incher, I'd be all over it.

Your revolver is well worth what you paid for it. In fact, I would say the actual value is in the $350-$400 range. It's just that many folks have not figured that out yet. Thus, the prices stay low. If this revolver were made today, to this level of fit and finish, with these materials, S&W would have to charge around $1000 for it and call it a Performance Center gun. They are that good.

You done good!

Some things just give so much value and pleasure that they stand out from our run of the mill purchases. I often use the examples of snowshoes, a Grumman canoe or a high quality woodstove. Looking at the big picture a model 10 is a prime example of something that will last.....Essex

that is a GORGEOUS M10. I'm shopping for that exact model, although I have no desire for one in that great condition as I'll be using and abusing it as a field/truck/trainer/etc gun.

Again, yours is most truly gorgeous, and in my humble opinion, well worth the price

Great find Jibjab! I too, am looking for a 3 inch M10. Round these parts, those suckers are hard to come by!

I totally should of bought one of the few 3" Round butts that J&G Sales was selling:banghead:

That is one fine model 10. This one not near as nice as your's. The small pic kinda hides the nicks, dings and worn blueing(character marks??) but it's still tight and shoots where I point it. Still gets some time carried concealed.

I paid $275 for its twin up in Billings MT a while back and have no complaints. Nice little guns.

My daughter bought one of the J&G 3" guns. By the time I got done doing some minor work on it she really liked it and I realized I should have gotten one too.

The action on my new old mod-10 was sluggish, when I removed the side plate I found out why. what ever lubricant was in there had turned into a sticky gunk :( I gutted the gun, and gave everything a good cleaning. The timing was a bit fast, in single action the hammer labored to cock, I dressed up the hand and then reassembled and lubed her up. The action feels much better :) not as smooth as my other mod. 10 but with sum range time I sure it will settle in.
