A Question About Sniper Rifles

You say you are looking at hitting targets at 100 to 500 yards. Marine Corps bootcamp will teach you that with the M16 (AKA "AR" for the civilians). And that is with stock iron sights!!!! (Copied from Wikipedia: The Marines are the only branch of the United States armed forces that require the 500 yard line qualification.)
At 23 your still young enough to join. Save some of your pay and get you anything you want. Although just with the training alone you can take what you have and be very impressive shooting it. (Copied from Wikipedia: Some common sniper rifles used during the Second World War include: the Soviet M1891/30 Mosin Nagant and, to a lesser extent, the SVT-40; the German Mauser Karabiner 98k and Gewehr 43; the British Lee-Enfield No. 4 and Pattern 1914 Enfield; the Japanese Arisaka 97; the American M1903 Springfield and M1 Garand; to a lesser extent, the Italians trained few snipers and supplied them with a scoped Carcano Model 1891.)
Semper Fi,
Mike
