I have finally taken possession of a few guns I bought over some time and went to the range with them this morning. I love revolvers and especially rimfire revolvers. So this morning I checked the Korth when I started packing the rang bag. It had the worst action I have experienced in a double action revolvers in quite a while. No problem, Korths and I go back a long time and I have a box of Korth parts ... just in case. Taking a Ratzeburg Korth apart is an experience because of the extremely tight fit and it took me almost two hours to disassemble and reassemble the gun three times and fix the issues successfully. It was just some hardened crud and adjustments that the gun needed.
I packed the range bag in a hurry, loaded up the HKS K22 speedloaders and headed out to the range. Four rimfire revolvers were in the bag and also a .45 ACPS&W Performance Center Target Champion and a scoped and very heavy Weihrauch HW52 falling block .22 l.r. rifle.
The revolvers:
The Korth 26 from 1971 was set up with a number 5 bearing and was a hoot to shot!
The S&W M&P was modified by Parker Hale and has a silky smooth action and great sights!
The Sauer & Sohn, marketed in the U.S. by Hawes, is a very well made revolver and shot great!
Finally the S&W M18. I am always skeptical with S&W post 1970s revolvers but S&W got everything right with this one and it worked without a glitch.
I shot all pretty much equally well and enjoyed a morning at the range.
The scope of the HW52, an old German Hubertus could not be adjusted but when I came home and put the scope in the Texas sun for half an hour the grease that had hardened for five decades softened and the turrets can be moved once again. Hubertus is the patron saint of hunters in Germany and was for a long time the scope brand for Frankonia. Schmidt & Bender made the scopes for Frankonia and I will soon sight the scope in shoot the HW52 some. The S&W Target Champion has an amazing trigger and it helps to get good results.
