If you have read me much you know two things....one I have been wanting a ruger 77 in 357, and I have cookouts with the family monthly where we bust clays. My boss swings by Friday and says...you know that X has a pretty nice A5 in 20G. Really.....

Long story short I now have a 1958 Auto 5 20 gage....well crap....i guess.

Just cleaned her up, still the paper under the fore stock telling you friction ring setup. Spring looked a little collapsed not a biggie, ran two boxes and busted some clays....oh yea I like.

So make me feel not so alone here... I figured the 77 357 is current production, where as an A5 that is pretty cherry is a lucky find...how often, if ever has this happened to you. Also had a nice take down 99 in 300 savage, but I was a good boy.

Because of neck surgery, I must shoot in a Heads-up position. I use a 20 and 12 ga, Browning A5. I got a Ducks Unlimited 20 ga and use a 22" bbl. Its like shooting an O/U with a 26" bbl. Very lively gun and not too heavy and it is pretty. Regardless of what the gas operated do, I think the A5 is more reliable and more robust.

A tale of 2 guns.

Not sure what the story is on the 2nd gun, but congratulations on the A5. There was a time when I wanted one.

Story on the second gun....the m77-357. I have a couple other pistol caliber "rifles" and enjoy them a great deal, I have a lever 38/357, and that thing is just fun, no other word for it. No real recoil even with hotter loads the mass of the marlin is just enough to tame it....and shooting powder puff 38's is just like shooting a big 22. The other an old "camp" 9 is also a hoot. There is just something so much fun in a long gun that shoot hand gun ammo. So I figured that as ruger is the only game in town when it comes to a bolt 357, I figured I would give it a go. I have a couple irons on the fire that are going to be a bit expensive, new standby gen for the house is going to hit me at about $8k. If not for that I would have just done both....or all three for that matter.

The place also had a 1907 winchester automatic.....something I had been wanting for quite some time, but it had been refurbished, not restored. So it just had no history left to it, so hard pass. Really been looking for a nice original self loader, but no luck so far.

So in my little brain I see something like the 351 WSL as really a hyped up hand gun cartridge from around the turn of the century, and is a good fit, at least in my mind to this "hand gun" cartridge long gun. I had forgotten just how thick the 1907 is, porky little thing.

And sorry tale.....this is why I don't do things from a stupid phone.

#1) Walked into a gunshow years ago and had the intention of ONLY buying a single shot 22 of some kind for the single shot collection.

Walked out with a Zastava M70 UF and 7 20rd Hungarian mags for 500.

#2) Wanted to find a Ruger Vaquero

Came across a SUIT scope and my friend swears that my hand broke the sound barrier getting my wallet out when I talked to the gent selling it and found out he wanted 75$ for the weird thing.
