So I finally found a place to pattern buckshot, against a metal patterning board, with some grease on it.
For some others newbs who are going to go out and do it, my experience. No advice, not nearly qualified for that.
My local area stores do not carry much in the way of buckshot, so I had to make do with what was available.
Buckshot used
Win Super X 2-3/4 Low Recoil 00 Buck (XB1200LR)
Win Super X 3 Magnum Super 4 Buck (X12MB5)
Win Super X 2-3/4 4 Buck (XB 124)
Federal Premium 3 00 Buck (P15800)
Win Super X 2-3/4 00 Buck (XB1200)
As good sample as I was going to get for my local area.
Thoughts.
1) One forgets how much a 12 gauge can kick One also forgets how much firepower one gets for said kick. At 20 Yards, my longest possible shot, the shot was htting the metal patterning board with vigor.
2) Shooting a shotgun like a rifle does not work. Kept getting my patterns up and to the left. Once I started pointing the thing, I got more accurate.
3) Finessing a shotgun does not work. I read somewhere that one has to be aggressive with a shotgun. I also got more accurate when I kept that in mind.
4) As in life, the shell with the heaviest recoil, had the best pattern (The 3 inch 4 Buck) . Fortunately the trend did not go all the way across with the Low Recoil coming in second best. So, here is a question. Would you practice with the Low Recoil, and use the #4 for social situations?
5) The Youth Hogue Overmolded Rubber Stock worked well, and helped with the recoil.
Overall, pretty fun afternoon, thanks for all the prior help.
