Mr. Schwarzenegger:

AB50 will soon reach your desk for your potential signature. This is the bill that would ban the ownership of fifty caliber target rifles.

I urge you to veto AB50. There is no crisis that begs for legislation to deprive California citizens of the right to continue to own target rifles.

The .50 caliber target rifle has never been used in a criminal incident in the history of the State of California. No Californian, or anyone in America has ever been killed with a fifty caliber target rifle.

Fifty caliber target rifles have been lawfully used for recreation and competition in California for the past 40 years - a time tested record that proves they are not used in crime, but 100% of their use is by law-abiding shooters.

In spite of this, the legislature has passed a bill that will cost California millions of dollars to outlaw a rifle that has never been used in a crime in the state.

Mr. Schwarzenegger, AB-50 will do nothing to stop criminals, and will cost us millions in MORE money, merely to implement a ban on something that has never been a threat.

Again, I urge you to not sign AB50.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Here's my attempt. I hope he pays attention. If Grey Davis was in office, this would already be law.

Governor,

I am writing to you in opposition to AB50. This bill/ban which recently passed the Senate is a bad piece of legislation that will not accomplish anything except the continued criminalization of law abiding gun owners. No crime in California has ever been committed with this type of target rifle and bills like this cost millions of dollars to implement yet accomplish nothing.

California is a very difficult place to own a firearm. Difficult for law abiding citizens. It is a very easy place, however, for criminals to ply their trade. By definition, criminals would not obey these or any other restrictive gun laws. AB50 is such a law. AB50 stops people who follow the law from using a target rifle that is not used by criminals. Is there any logic to AB50?

I am an electrical engineer in a Fortune 500 company. I can almost afford the 2 to 3 thousand dollars that a .50 caliber target rifle costs. I, like all of my friends and colleagues, are very tired of the same laws coming from Sacramento that demonize hobbyists, hunters, and collectors. Please support crime control and stop the relentless attempts at gun control. Veto AB50.

thank you,

Gun Facts v3.3

I highly encourage you guys/gals who love and support the 2nd Amendment to go to the Gun Facts website and download the free e-book: http://www.gunfacts.info/

Print out pages 7 thru 9, which debunks the myths of the .50 caliber rifle and fax or mail it along with your letter asking for the Governor's veto of AB-50.

The time to act is NOW! :cuss:

Here's my letter.

I mailed TWO separate copies and included the front page and "10 myths" pages from www.fiftycal.org

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:

I am writing to you to urge you to veto AB 50, which is legislation calling for a ban on .50 caliber rifles.

There are two very important reasons why you must veto this legislation.

The first is that it passed under extremely suspicious circumstances. As you will read in the highlighted area of the documents I have enclosed, the bill was initially defeated. However, democratic members of the Assembly called for a “re-vote†and then voted for members of the house who were ABSENT.

Some Assembly members voted TWICE on this bill! I hope that, apart from vetoing this legislation, you conduct an investigation into the conduct of these members, as such actions are unacceptable and totally undermine the principles which our country was founded upon.

The second reason you must veto this legislation is that .50 caliber rifles have simply never been used in the commission of a crime in America. There is absolutely no reason to ban them. Again, you may read about some of the many lies about .50 caliber rifles in the documents I have enclosed for you.

Again Governor: I urge you to veto AB 50.

Warm Regards,

Drjones

Oh, and I also called him and left a message with a staff member at: 916-445-2841

Often it is busy, but just hit "redial" a couple times and you will get right through. :)

Might want to appeal to money issues here.

Doesn't the AB50 bill appropriate a few million dollars or so? Another good way to attack this bill with the Governator is to say: "The anti-gunners want to spend money on gun control when schools need books, roads need construction", etc. That's one really effective way to get him to veto it.

It's not a "couple mil" but it IS substantial. Cal-DOJ will have to re-start the public notice process last used when the last AW ban went in. If they DON'T do public notice, it becomes an evil trap for the unwary.

Mention the "costs of public outreach" in any letter...last time this involved radio ads, etc.

The following might prove informative and or of interest to readers. Same was received in the form of a CCRKBA e-mail alert.

CALIFORNIA ALERT
Four anti-gun bills were recently passed by the California legislature and are on their way to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk. The bills are:

AB50 (.50 caliber BMG rifle ban/registration)

SB1140 (expanded child access restrictions)

SB1152 (ammunition purchase registration/thumbprint)

SB1733 (Cow Palace gun show ban)

California residents must contact the governor's office as soon as possible and politely urge Governor Schwarzenegger to veto all four of the bills.

Re reference to the anti-gun/anti civil rights/anti common sense legislation passed by the state legislature, the following questions come to mind.

1. Did Governor Schwartzenegger make any attempt to lobby the legislature in OPPOSITION to enactment of the above mentioned, when he could have done so?
2. Re petitioning his veto of any or all of the above mentioned, assuming that he made no efforts to stop enactment, are such attempts realistic? I'm not saying that they should not be made, obviously they should be. I merely ask if there is a realistic basis for such efforts, based on the governor's past performance and history?
3. The electorate, including gun owners and shooters in California dumped Governor Davis, who was certainly no friend of gun rights. Fair enough, but is what you got any real improvement?
4. This last might be a dumb question, so please bear with me. It's been a very long time since I lived in California, 34 years to be more or less exact, and I might well be really out of touch with things there. Never-the-less, I wonder as to whether the preponderance of anti gun voters is so great as to preclude constructive changes in the make-up of the state legislature, which seems to be the seat of problems regarding guns and gun rights in California.

Let Arnold know how you feel. We can't let these bills pass!
Call, write, or fax ASAP.
