I hear all about how Kimbers are not up to par with Colt from so many, yet Kimber does have parts available. I have a Colt Defender made in 1999....need a recoil spring....none available on third party sites like Brownells, Midway, etc. Call Colt and they essentially tell me too bad...they can't get one.

Ok....I ask if I can use a sub from a Kimber or other officers 1911. Of course, they don't know. So I need some help. Has anyone tried to use a Kimber or another recoil assembly in a Defender? Anyone have any advice on this issue. Thanks

Found one at Wolf....thanks

Sorry for the rant...guess I was just surprised at how unhelpful and seemingly unconcerned Colt was.

Colt no longer sells parts. They used to, but not any more. Note the parts link on their website sends you to Brownell's and MidwayUSA http://www.colt.com/Shop-Colt

As you've noted from the responses, Wolff Gunsprings as a source for recoil springs is such common knowledge, the Colt folks may have wondered why you were asking them.

Wolff seems the way to go when it comes to putting a spring in your step.

For those looking for hard to find parts for their guns, call Jack's First gun shop at 605-343-9544. I have an old Interarms Rossi .38 that needed a new firing pin. Jack's can't get the part because it's no longer made, so it makes the part itself. If you keep a Rossi on hand in your bugout bag, having a few spare parts may be a good idea. (S&W 60 parts won't work.)

Shipping can be steep for small orders, so it's best to consolidate what you need.

Here's the Wolff part
