There was a school in Memphis, the First Assembly of God School. They were affiliated with the First Assembly of God Church.
They had a basketball team, they got the uniforms printed with the school name abbreviated to the initials, nobody noticed until they went out on the court that they were all wearing shirts saying F.A.G.S. The crowd noticed.
They are now called First Assembly of Christ School.

There's always US ARMY backwards as an acronym

Yes, My Retarded A** Signed Up

And of course all the ones I heard in MP school

MP = mud puppy, mental patient, missing person, midget proctologist...

Most of these are internet chat room lazy typist short cuts. Like LOL, U, etc. Listen to Fly320s. NASA is an acronym. LOL is not. Neither is 'U'. The Queen's English is always preferred. As is proper puncuation, sentences and paragraph's.
Proper use of The Queen's English gives you crediblity. Bad spelling, improperly used words(too, to and two or there, their and they're), no spaces after punctuation marks, etc. reduces said credibility.
"...close quarters concealment..." Eh? That'd be a marketing thing.
MP = meathead.

Acro

is from the Greek for head. Acronyms, strictly, are made from the beginnings of their source words, but I don't think it is a hanging offense to violate this.

Some of my favorites are:
SUSFU - Situation Unchanged, Still Fouled Up
FUBAR - Fouled Up Beyond All Repair
TUIFU - The Ultimate In Foul-Ups

But one must always remember the basic rule of acronyming:
Be Always Sure That Acronyms Reflect Decency

On that note, I will return to my sensory deprivation cubicle for more shock treatments.

...is from the Greek for head.

svtruth, put down the Windex and step away from the keyboard. :neener: I could not resist that one. I have a Greek colleague and every time he brings up the Greek root of a word, I think of the movie and Windex.:D

Well, like John Kerry says, go to college study hard and you get a B.S.
We ALL know what that stands for.
If you continue on in your education, you can get an M.S.
That stands for More of the Same.
Continue on you can get a Ph.D. Which is Piled Higher and Deeper.

brm- basic rifle marksmanship.
mbr- main battle rifle
AT- anti tank
ap- armor peircing
he- high explosive
hedp- high explosive dual purpose
TOW- tubular launched, optically tracked, wire quided.
BDA- battle damage assesment

Some more that came to mind as I perused the morning paper:
JANFU - Joint Army-Navy Foul-Up
NABU - Non-Adjusting Ball-Up
TGIF - Thank God It's Friday
**** - Sure Happy It's Thursday (preceeds TGIF)

Acronyms, if done properly, should be pronouncable, and slipped into daily conversation without the target person recognizing that a mental time-bomb has been planted until it's too late.
