Advice needed on scopes and bases for my leverguns..

I am interested in finding scopes for my Marlin 336 and my Marlin 1894C and am wondering what your favorites are for these guns. Please don't answer by telling me I shouldn't scope a levergun, as I'm set on doing it.

Also, what scope mount would you recommend? I am considering putting ghost ring sights on both rifles and something like an XS lever mount but am not sure.. Thanks for your suggestions!

Personally....

I dont scope leverguns;).....you just knew someone had to say that didn't you. Anyway, I have always had good luck with simmons, which are pretty inexpensive too.....but know I'd look hard at Nikon's Prostaff, which are not that expensive.:D

I am with 115grfmj, really would prefer not to add optical enhancers on a lever gun because of tradition. That being said, if you insist on using a crutch and maintaining some semblance of the virtues of a levergun, check out a Banner Dusk & Dawn 1.75 - 4 with six inch eye relief. Mount on medium height mounts.

I love my 1894c, but I can't use the iron sights anymore. I decided to try a red dot (Bushnel). It's my first experience with this type of sight and it's worked out very well.

Although I don't scope my lever guns either , I would go with a fixed long relief 2.5X , and a forward scout type mount ( for balance as much as any thing ).

I have scopes on all 5 of my leverguns. My 1960's vintage Marlin 336 has an old Burris 4x that my Dad put on it for me in the early 80's, but I upgraded the mount to Talleys. My 1983 model 336T wears a set of Talley mounts and a Leupold Vari X II 3-9x. One of my 336SS has Talley mounts and a Leupold VX II 2-7x, and the other has a set of Talleys and a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x. My 1895GS 45-70 has a XS rail and wears Leupold "permanent" rings and a Leupold 2.5x scout scope.

I just put the scout set up on my 1895, and the verdict is out as to whether I like it or not. It is definitely "different" than a normal scope set up.

Good luck with your decision.

I put an Ashley Outdoors forward (Scout) scope mount on my Guide Gun. It was easy to install and works great. I'm probably going to get another one for my .30-30.

My 444ss wears a Leupold 2.5x M8 with a Premier Reticles german #3 reticle in it. I heard the the guy that did that died and noone is taking up the business.

My Marlin wears a vintage Weaver K 1.5. I bought it in the late seventies when I was a dealer. Best thirty three dollars I ever spent. Essex

HEHE, I won't buck you for scopping a lever gun, my m94 will be wearing one soon. Heck I just put a Leupold Scout Scope (M-8 4x EIR) on my AK, I know people will laugh thier butts off at that one. Anyway, I have 8 rifles that have scopes, 7 of them have leupolds, if you are going to glass it, get good sturdy glass.
