Any idea why AIM Surplus shipping charges suddenly seem outrageous? I've ordered from them numerous times in the past and shipping was always very reasonable. Now all of a sudden they want $14 to ship a $15 mag????

I have no idea. AIM has been always very reasonable in the past. I hope you are just experiencing a "glitch" in the system.

It has been strange, but you're probably right, I think all the shipping estimators seem high. I think I noticed that the more mags you add into the cart the shipping stays pretty much the same.

It continues to amaze me that shoppers think shipping costs are related to the price of an item.

Try buying a single screw from Jack First Gun Parts:cuss:

I have had plenty of luck with AIM. Just bought a case of 5.45x39 with free shipping which got it down to $.17 per round delivered.

I bought a pair of stripped AR15 lowers from AIM a few months back and I thought the freight charge was a bit high too. It was $20 or $25. I still bought them though because I was happy with the price of the lowers and I'm not much of a complainer anyway.

Darn capitalists...!

Or,

Why can't I have everything for free....?

On point, I've been a regular AIM customer since around 2005. I've always found them to be fantastic. I think I had one or two minor issues, and they corrected them both without problem.

As for shipping, I've always found them to be competitive. In fact, I also just got some ammo that was by far the lowest price on the web, AND I got free shipping on top of that. The total was easily 20% or more cheaper than anywhere else ... and most places were out of stock. AIM could have charged more AND charged for shipping.

As for the costs in general, the dollar is weaker and fuel prices are up and things like ammo are still in high demand. Expect to pay top dollar.

Let's say USPS Small Flat rate box- that's about $7.
Fits maybe one or two mags, tops.
Medium box is about $14. Fit lots of mags.

And that's cost, not including paying somebody to make boxes, fill boxes, tape boxes, label boxes. Nothing's free. UPS or FedEx is even more.

I need tires for my trailer. The on-line price is half the price of the local big-box tire store for the same tires. Shiping however varies; one place wants $28 per tire to ship.

If shipping cost is an issue, shop elsewhere, or buy locally.

I never order anything without looking at the TOTAL cost.
Some places have good shipping rates but higher priced items.
Some places have outrageous shipping with low priced items.
I just look at the TOTAL cost and decide, while also factoring in availability.

I have found some places that start with a high total due to shipping costs get more competitive as additional items are added, ie shipping doesn't go up much if any.

What I absolutely refuse to do is create an "account" with my personal info to even get a shipping cost. If they can't show me the cost when just browsing then forget it.

I think people are missing the entire point of this thread. I'm not complaining about shipping costs. I buy A LOT of stuff online, I'm well aware of standard shipping prices. I was simply asking if anybody has noticed or knows why AIM's shipping prices have suddenly increased dramatically. Of course if people could read, they would have noticed where I mentioned it seems just the "shipping estimator" is off, and the actual shipping costs at checkout are much more in line with where they should be.

Having said that, if anybody think $14 to ship a single magazine ground is reasonable, they are a fool.

If shipping costs are a pain, you might check out Amazon.com. They have around 400 pages of gun accessories. I haven't compared their prices to other on-line suppliers, but if you join Amazon Prime and the item is listed as being Prime eligible, 2 day shipping is free. (Prime costs $79 per year)

That, with one-click shopping can put a real dent in your bank account.
It's almost too easy to buy stuff. No filling out of forms, inputting payment info, etc. Just point and click and two days later you have what you ordered.

(And you can always use the excuse "Look at the money I'm saving on shipping".

Compare the cost of having what you bought, ordered from the comfort of your home, delivered directly to your door for $14(average for small order) as opposed to getting out, driving there and buying in person. It's not even close(for those of us who don't live close to vendors). Even at today's higher shipping costs it is still a good deal.

I think fuel and sales tax is something people often overlook. For me, buying from my LGS means $20 in fuel for the round trip plus 6% of my purchase. All of the sudden, $14 for shipping doesn't look so bad anymore.

Its merchandise cost + S&H that decides who really has the best price and that is usually what determines where I buy from. Free shipping offers on cases of ammo is usually pretty hard to beat, I rarely let them get past me.

Its the lack of S&H and FFL transfer fee that make the $80-90 gunshow stripped lower prices usually hard to beat.

@captains1911:
Buy one mag shipping is $14.
Buy ten mags shipping is $14.

Your call.
See post #15, reading is fundamental.

I ended up buying 2 mags and 3 boxes of ammo, and the shipping was less than $10, much more in line with past experiences. It was just that the SHIPPING ESTIMATOR on AIM Surplus's website was not accurate. That is all.

Mods feel free to close this thread, people seem unable to understand the intent.

That is subjective, but my points would be that one, it takes as much labor to ship one mag as it does 10 mags, and two, that they are selling so much stuff and are so swamped, I doubt they are worried about selling one mag. Just the way things are right now.

Fussing about shipping charges, whether it is AIM or someone else, is counterproductive and a waste of time. One of my favorite vendors is Midway, and occasionally I just really scratch my head over shipping charges, but most times it is reasonable. When it isn't, I either pay it or go elsewhere.

Again, I'm not fussing! There was an error, or glitch, on the website reporting higher than usual costs. What is going on around here? There seems to be a major reading comprehension breakdown..

I do not buy from midway anymore because of their shipping, If they out of stock something, they charge a new shipping charge, which is high, when the item is in stock, and its their fault.
