It's amazing what can be used as a weapon. Just about anything brittle, when broken, becomes sharp.

I wouldn't worry so much about a weapon. Why not just use the power cord and garrote him when he walks by?

You're assuming you're on one of the 1% of planes that have an air marshal on board. The odds are 99 to 1 that you're not on that plane.

Is there some significance to the hijacker being a mechanic? Is he going to perform unauthorized maintenance on the aircraft in flight?

Flashlight, roll of coins, improvised sap/club, pen, garrote. Any of these are available to me or anyone else with the sense to carry or make one up on the spot. Each would be effective.

Or just stop a couple knees to restrain him. Hard to stand up and restist with no knees.
