AK/AR Pistols turned into SBR's.....anyone?

I've decided for no apparent reason that I want an AK pistol. I'd like to SBR the thing and add a buttstock and optics. Can I get some advice on how to get BATFE approval? Anybody got any particular AK pistol that they can recommend?

Recently the ATF has announced that they won't allow anymore AK barrels to be imported into the US as of Sept 10. If you want an AK pistol you should act quickly, the price of these will go up. I would recommend you take a look at AtlanticFirearms for an AK pistol. I don't have any first hand business with them, but reading about them on AR15.com, they stand behind their products and are quick to respond and fix anything wrong.

Assuming that you are allowed to own an SBR in Ohio...it's a pretty simple process. Get a form 1 from the BATFE (You can call and request one or you can download one from the net) You will also need the proper fingerprint cards to submit along with the form 1. You can get these from the BATFE as well. Complete the form, get your CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer) in your area to sign off on it. Mail the completed from and the fingerprints along with $200.00 to ATF and in a few short months (about 4 months last time I spoke with someone) you can build your sbr.

A few notes...You would probably be wise not to have all the parts on hand to complete the SBr before you recieve your tax stamp. There are lots of places on the net to get detailed info.
