how bout some more dot drill fun.

with a piece of paper/target place 12 1" dots on the target/paper, form three yards place one round in dots 1-10, and 5 rounds ea in dots 11 and 12.

when you can do this at 3yds clean(no rounds out of a dot), move back, to 5, 7 ect. it sounds easy but it isn't.

this drill is from fighting pistol at tactical response, and a drill that i now use at the begining and the end of each range trip.

again report back on how you do, pics would be great if you clean the drill.

Grouping drills are good and I wish I saw more folks doing them at the range.

My accuracy starts to take a significant hit at about 15 meters, and at 25 I really have to concentrate, so I tend to start my grouping drills at 15 and work back. I don't have the discipline, gun, or skill to consistently keep em' "stupid tight", so I stick with my patented 5 at 25 rule, ie a max of 5" at 25. If I can do that I feel pretty good about myself. :D

I find 25 meters very challenging and it helps me to quickly I.D. the fundamental errors I am making at the time. It pays off up close and when shooting plates. I don't see how those bull shooters can lay the smack down on those 50 yard target...

the great thing about this is the fact that you can work on that 25yd marksmanship, at 3yds, if the fundamentals are followed no matter what range you are at and you are gonna get good hits. i gurantee if you do good at the "allen dots" you wil have no problem getting good solid hits on a target at 25yds.

If you can shoot it clean at 3 yards, you can hit a human-sized target at 100 yards. I proved this a couple of Alumni Training Weekends ago when I had 56 out of 57 students hit at 25, 50 and 100 yards after shooting Allen dots.

Possum,
I'd recommend that you do not start with skills/precision drills when you are at the range. Shoot at least one drill from the holster with all the elements of FASTTT. In the real world you won't get a warm up and your first shot (or first couple) need to be done at full speed with no warm up. This is how you gauge your abilities. Cold from the holster. Then you can move on to skills work.

shay.
yeah roger i got what you are saying i have started lately with the 21 shot drill 2 hand, weak hand only and strong hand only. because of the exact reason that you stated. instead of the allen dots. and that is generally the first thing i do when i get to the range. and then i go into other things.

If you can shoot it clean at 3 yards, you can hit a human-sized target at 100 yards.
proves my statement exactly, thanks shay.

i'm going to shoot this one with an AR at 3, 7, 15 yrds :)

I'll give it a try on my next trip to the range. For those that want it (and most of you probably already know this, but I'm still a noob at shooting), there's a free target (PDF format) with 1" dots at mytargets.com (I have no affiliation with them, just passing the link along).
