no offense to the folks here but heres some questions of wisdom to ponder for the op and the rest of us.

The concept of a high end rifle rig has been put towards the concept of do we need expensive luxory cars/trucks.

I know alot of folks who have high end trucks. I mean, the heavy duty and super duty pickups. The only thing they ever do with them is go to work, get gas, and get groceries. IF they are lucky they might, MIGHT use it to carry a bag or two of wood pellets home every few days in winter. Are they better served by a 45,000 dollar v8 diesel super duty crew cab then if they had an al camino or a chevy blazer or 12 year old f150?

I used to be on the rimfirecentral(?) forum and loved talking with the folks there when i got into squirrel and pest control with a 22. SOME of those folks were happy spending 1200 on a custom 10/22 just so they could have the "fancy" gun when they did their weekly or monthly fun shoot at the local shooting range with their drinking buddies. Normally they didnt do any worse or better then the other guys who simply brought in a stock 10/22 or marlin semi auto purchased that morning at kmart or walmart.

Do you need the yokohama racing tires for your toyata camry when standard michelin or cooper tires will give you better tread, traction, and cost value for the car you simply drive to work everyday in?

its like grandpop said, "do you really need a 150 dollar carbon fiber barrel and 200 dollar laminated target thumbhole stock and 200 dollar BDC scope on your 10/22 when you can already shoot a raccoon or squirrel in the head at 50 yards with the cheapest bulk ammo at walmart?"

Grandpop has got it mixed up! It's not about need it's about want and it aint his $$$$.:what:

I appreciate all the comments

I decided to order a Sako 85 Grey Wolf Rifle in 300 Win Mag from eurooptic. I am on the back order list so in the next few weeks. I am going with the Sako optic lock rings and bases.

Now I will take my time and find an excellent piece of glass. I cant wait to hunt in Missouri and Kansas this year.

I am in the process of trying to get a trip to Idaho planned for this year as well. She wont be a safe queen at my house!!!

With out reading the other replies I will have to say you probably have lost your mind or you need to mature a little bit. Buy a Savage or a Ruger put a Nikon on it and have a tack driver and $2500 change to book a hunt, chase women, buy ammo and buy a catfish dinner.

I hope he has a Savage in his past that he has used, or gets to use one AFTER getting and using his new Sako.

If so he will know what he paid for and with the caveat that he truly wanted- and can afford it will (maybe for the only category of an average life) treasure it and get a satisfaction beyond what a true bean counter can quantify. The 80/20 rule. If you cannot conceive that the Sako can be truly superior to a $600.00 rifle that, on the mean, functions well, then arguments are wasted here.

I also have a "different tribes" philosophy.

P.S. I cannot afford a Sako (I have used two and would that I could). So I have a Tikka.

Exactly! "Need" rarely has anything to do with it. I find it odd that we have to justify our wants and expenditures to strangers. I talked to a gunsmith yesterday about a custom revolver project. It's going to cost me somewhere around $4500, plus the $500 I have invested in the base gun. Did I post a thread to get the blessing of complete strangers who are not footing the bill? No. Do I "need" it? No. Could I find a less expensive alternative that some might say "does the same thing"? Probably. Do I care? Not in the least. Because anything less would not "do the same thing" for me and I fail to see the logic in such statements.

I wanted a Harley Davidson for over 20+ years, I finally walked in picked the one I wanted, Did what I wanted to it, Had every kind of bad luck you could have with it, But I kept spending money on it, Finally got the bugs out of it, Rode it for 8 yrs I had over 28,000 in it easy, The most I could get out of it was 8500.00 so it cost me over 2400.00 a yr to own it. So now 3000.00 is not much money for a rifle, In fact my guns are probably the cheapest hobby I have. My last AR rifle and scope was more than that, And your guns wont depreciate near as much as a Harley will, In fact more than one of my rifles are worth 2x what I paid for them.
A Harley depreciate??? I'm unfamiliar with the concept.

There are basically just three kinds of folks;
Those that can't afford a high end rifle so they will tell you for the most part it is a waste of money.
Then there are those that can afford it but are just cheap and feel you have to have a need for it.
Last are those that have the disposable cash and say; hey, why not?
I have a nice JP Sauer & Sohn 202 Forest chambered in .308 that ran 4K with glass. The nice part was it was paid for by folks that Obama scared into paying me 3x what I had invested in a few of my so called "assault" rifles; yes there are silly people out there that will buy your high end rifles for you too!
