Am I cheap or smart?

I think it’s a great idea. One recommendation; make sure you have a way to differentiate between magazines at a glance. ;)

I have a 9mm P239 and a 357 SIG P239.

The base of all the 9mm magazines have a big orange dot of paint. The holsters, though close, aren’t really interchangeable. The 9mm holsters have a big orange dot of paint on the back.

Nothing wrong with duplicating tools that use the same peripheral equipment at all!

I did a similar when I got 9mm conversion stuff for my trade-in Glock 22 .40. :)

I used white model paint to paint-in the little inset “.40” at the top of the Glock OEM mags and used white dots to number them. This way the .40 magazines don’t match the orange paint I used to number my 9mm Glock magazines. ;)

Stay safe.

Well, 40 ammo is a little higher than 9mm so I don’t think cheap applies there.

However, 40 pistols have come down in price in recent years so there is that.

Holster compatibility is always an added bonus.

That rational plays into LE purchasing. Our local Sheriff's Dept. wanted to transition to 9mm from the old G22 they had been using. A big reason they chose the G17 was because they wouldn't have to buy new holsters.

If you've never tried one of these give it a look. I have a couple. Virtually any full size pistol will fit. I use it with my Glocks, Sigs, and Smith M&P's and it works equally well. The large Glocks in 10mm and 45 won't fit. Nor will really small stuff like the G43 or Sig 365.

Works for me.

I have a DeSantis holster made for a G19 that my "same size" G36 rides in and surprisingly my CZ75D PCR securely fits into as well.

And I have a Recluse TS pocket holster for my RM380, but have been using that holster for my Ruger LCP Max for the last 1/2 year. The Recluse TS fits either gun perfectly.

Of course, there are no accidental mag swap problems between any of the guns above.

It's smart. You're only carrying one gun at a time, so it makes absolutely zero sense to have more than one holster. Even if you had the money, I'd see it as a waste of money.
